Talking Training and/with significant others...

After three years of World Oyama Karate, I took up doing mixed martial arts and a great deal of weight training. Just a few months later I met my current g/f with whom I am very close to. We have a great deal in common such as music, food, movies ect. I didn't say to much about martial arts until she started picking up on things such as an interest in edged weapons (thanks Sayok), magazines laying around and staying at the "gym" a good bit. As a few weeks went by, friends that I hang around with would bring up training/martial arts, my folks would mention it and several spontaneous "wrestling matches" would occur at get togethers and such (all which I have held a flawless record with including friends that stack up a bit bigger )

Being in a previous long term relationship, I was wondering when my g/f would start getting annoyed and then jealous that I was spending so much of my free time training.

Over the past few weeks as I have dropped some of my vices that have otherwise been not so healthy and started devoting more time and effort into my training, my physical size has increased and my self confidence level in various aspects of my life has grown. Along with than and the fact that although she is drop dead gorgeous (and hears it everyday) I'm getting in tip top shape and she feels she has to keep up lol. As a result she has taken a new interest in my thoughts and ideas about training and every now and then while we are wrestling around, she will ask about a certain way to punch or a "what if" scenario and I try answer what I know to be the answer as well as possible and drill a technique for a a few minutes.

So last night while we were staying at a friend’s house and lounging in the floor when she started asking about various positions; the mount, side control ect that we had worked earlier in the week. This went from just showing basic stuff to her inquiring about other submission that she was aware of other than rear naked choke, and the triangle. We worked a few positions, I showed her the bicep slicer, armbar from the guard and a few others. With some more knowledge, she found a new confidence in her abilities and we proceeded to roll (again, in front of friends for those inquiring as to our dress code lol) When all was said in done, we both were pretty worked as she did a much better than the previous bouts so we took a break and finished our drink. Then she asked when I was going to let her come train with me.

And for those curious, we then continued with further "private training" elsewhere and honestly picked up on the fact then we exchanged "mount" position that she was quick to isolate an arm, trap a leg on the same side and hip up to roll me.

So Monday evening is our first class together. Hopefully it will be something that she can take an interest in. It's nice rolling with a blond bombshell.

Anyone else have experience with training and significant others?

Having both people in a relationship train in the arts is one of the keys to a happy relationship. my wife has 7 years of silat/fma training that has helped her understand the amount of time and effort i spend on it...now we spend that time together.... its awesome....the only downside is when you get a new toy(knife/pistol) momma wants one as well that can get expensive if you buy good quality weapons. several of our closest friends are also husband/wife martial arts families and they feel its a great boost to thier marriage and training as well.

Damn man.. you got this all wrong... rolling with a blonde bombshell thats all good and whatnot, until shes rolling with other guys... I'm not sure about you, but having my girlfriend mounted by about 8 different guys one after the other while I watch doesnt seem quite interesting to me....

I go to grappling, and I realize there arent any sexual connotations that go along with it, but still.... guys rolling around and mounting my wife, being in her gaurd... I'd prolly go crazy but thats just me.
