we play metal for the most part, but i like everything so i was planning on playing some softer songs where the lyrics are able to be heard and i like when people sing along...so...i think we might cover some pop-punk to throw the crowd off and the just be like "just kidding"

I've got some friends in a local band around here that do a good deal of covers (as well as originals). They cover Blind Melon, Cake, Jane's Addiction, White Stripes (they do 7 nation army with a sax that I think sounds better than the original), blues traveler, Outkast, and more.
If you want to do some punk I suggest NOFX, Rancid, some old Greenday, and of course the Sex Pistols. Softer music: Bob Marley, CCR, Beatles, John Mayer, Dave Matthews, Ben Folds, and Frank Sinatra.
For rock or metal maybe some Metallica, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Offspring, Rehab, Butthole Surfers, the Doors, 7mary3, live, and Violent Fems.

A Punk rock version of "Fur Elise" - Beethoven

An emo version of "Mister Sandman"

A Reggae version of "Last Caress" - Misfits

A speed metal version of "Desperado" - Eagles

A death metal version "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" - Pat Benetar

Or do a musical fight montage... We are the Champions... Theme from Rocky... Chariots of Fire... Theme from Three's Company...

Lol, how about a montage with all three?!

How could one lose with entry music like that? It would strike fear into the very soul of your opponent, causing him to run away screaming into the night.

Wow... 'Rapper's Delight' I remember the video on the early days of MTV for that one!! You going to cover it straight, or play it in a different style?
