Seriously Tom expand upon this idea.
I'm going to save the details for a creative story that I'm writing, then run the details in front of some physicists and engineers to check my work.

Cool It's an interesting idea. Combined with wind and hydroelectric you could have a constant renewable power source.

The oil companies will love it I'm sure.

Major oil companies are forward looking in these kinds of things, since they are in the business of energy. Smaller oil companies would be more against it, but the major oil companies allready have alternative energy projects that are scaled up to meet industrial and residential needs.

Oil is going to be around for a while. We really need it. Most carbon based products that we use likely used crude oil as a starting material. I can think of nearly a dozen reactions that make different household and industrial products, but there are thousands and they came from an oil stream. OPEC says that there's something like 70 years of provable reserves left, that may be a generous guess and assumes not improvement in technology but I think becoming more independent of oil would probably remove us from alot of worldly conflict.

Here's a short list:

Dow-GM Joint Venture to generate residential-scale electricity from H2 fuel cells
http://news.dow.com/corporate/2004/20041129b.htm

BP gives $1 Million for kids to develop fuel cells.
http://www.fuelcelltoday.com/FuelCel...2,7774,00.html

Chevron + Georgia Tech work on JV project to look at agricultural feedstocks
http://www.technologynewsdaily.com/node/3396

Price is allways a set by supply and demand and the newest things are going to be the most expensive, since they need a generous return to make it worth while for the risk. The very first car sold well over what it was probably worth. The new playstation 3 will sell for way more than its worth.

Btw dude glad to hear you have joined the ranks, We often discuss things of that nature in "the circle."

"Hey man theres this car that runs on water!! Man, and it gets like a hundred miles to the gallon....but the oil companies wont let him make it man"

"Hey man I just figured out why they call it a circle"
LOL....I guess I'm a Mr.Burns/Hippie hybrid.

Confuses the hell out of folks in this 5-second, first impression, one dimensional world we live in...

Everyone had an explosive microchip implanted in their cranium which was connected to and monitored by a government-run time bank. As long as you worked / earned / accumulated time credits you could continue to live. You used your time credits to buy whatever you wanted or needed but if you ever went broke the microchip would exploded, scrambling your brains and killing you.

The whole story revolved around some guy who had lost his job, was pretty close to going broke and couldn't get anybody to make him a loan.
