Default Earth History

While discussing religion on another thread, it got me thinking about paleontology for some reason.

Anyway, here is a great website that shows pictures of what the earth looked like at various times in the past. Sort of explains why Fossils are so hard to find, and why they find whalebones on mountain tops!

Neat to know that there was once a sea where the Rocky mountains are now!

I looked that up, and although it did not say it was the remains of an ocean, you got to wonder!

The overall trend seems to be that all of the continents were one land mass that experienced several phases of divisions.

The future model predicts that our existing land masses will close up again over the next 200 million years.

That's one helluva prediction, considering how difficult it is to predict next week's weather; there are so many more variables that affect plate techtonics - physical properties of solids seem more difficult to predict than liquids and gasses (atmosphere).

Their model suggests that displacement of land masses is cyclical overtime.
