Probably a tiny percentage compared to the amount of people whose traditional arts don't work.

This could be true. McDojo-ism still exists in the TMA world. Its even creeping into the MMA world.

I attended a muaythai kickboxing club affiliated with school.

I went in there really excited about it!

I spoke with the guy running the class and told him I did a little bit of boxing and muay thai. So he pit me with his top assistant who held the thai pads.

We started with single, double, then triple thai kicks. I slammed those pads each time, even though I was a bit rusty and the guy complained that I was kicking too hard...... so I lightened up and went for speed, which is fine.

The rest of the class were there pretty much doing it for the workout and were kicking and punching like they were doing it for points rather than trying to bang the sh!t out of the pads with bad intentions.

None of these students could kick or knee with either speed or power. Their punching wasn't there either.

The instructor, however, had pretty good speed and power in his kicks and knees. His boxing was decent, so I tried to get him to hold the pads for me and work sparring drills. He was a decent fella - funny guy.

I don't think any of the students in this class could compete against C-level fighters. It seemed more like kickbox aerobics.

However, there are some old men over at Mousels who can lay the smack down in boxing & muaythai against some of the younger studs who wander in...
