Default Christians vs Atheist?

Hi guys 'n gals,

Because I read somewheere that resently members of an Atheist movement recceived death threats, I search the internet and found the following site http://www.landoverbaptist.org/news0503/atheists.html after reading this, I reacted like:Are they serious??( 300 Atheist in the whole of the US?)
so I looked at their forum and found this http://www.landoverbaptist.net/showt...hlight=atheist

Later today I looked at O'reilly's Talking point about christian hating Atheist

so show this he quotes 2 things

For example, and here it comes, ladies and gentlemen, on June 14, 2006, Ms. Marcotte wrote, "What if Mary had taken Plan B (birth control) after the Lord filled her with his hot, white, sticky Holy Spirit."

And on February 21st, 2006, Ms. McEwan attacked religious conservatives, saying, "What don't you lousy motherf---s understand about keeping your noses out of our britches, our beds, and our families?"

Now I see disrespect in these 2 statements but nt really hatred
therefore I conclude that O'reilly himself hates Atheist as do the people of the Landover Baptist Church ( and university)
Why is that, what have I done to them to be hated so much, I live my life such that I say believe what you want to but don't bother me with it
Why can't they do the same, why do they feel the need to force their values onto others?
Why do they wish a theocracy instead of democracy
I have 1 moralcode that guides me trough life, do unto others as you want them to do unto you, therefore I do NOT steal, murder pillage, rape or whatever

The Youtube Blasphemy Chalenge was seen as an attempt to bring preople off their fate not seeing that all but a few who reacted were atheist already
Reactions to the BC were also fierce

Seems that saying god doesn't exist to a christian is worse than saying it does to an Atheist...How come?

As Christians, we try to live the examples of Jesus love while spreading the word of the Bible. Some live it a little better than others, some are more effective at communicating God's word than others and some are more intense about certain areas of Christian practice.

I don't believe in beating people over the head with my Bible. I'm not going to force it down your throat either - but you may hear me quote it now and then in disucssions where life (as unpredictable as it is) happens and where Biblical wisdom is reflected in what we just experienced. The Bible makes more sense to people that way, since after all, that's how we use it.

You live in a very socially free society, so your last question makes alot of sense.

The founders of our nation had very strong beliefs about God and tied much of our laws with their religious beliefs. Belief in God is a source of strength, a center of gravity for us Christians and for many Americans. Likewise, a belief in no God for athiests is a center of gravity as well. Which is why when someone argues in belief of God, you may take offense.

Following God's law, as simple as the law is, can be difficult. "Love thy neighbor" is a tough one for everyone at one time or another even for non-Christians.

A non-Christian can argue that he/she is not a Christian and exempt from that rule at one point, while demanding it later.
Its being like the Bible says a reed in the wind, changing direction according to the trend.

On a side note, I have met folks from other faiths whom have demonstrated "Love thy neighbor" without wavering too - but you asked about Christians, so this is a different conversation.

Going on little sleep here, forgive me for any lapses or grammatical mistakes.

Later

What a load of bullshit. 300 atheists in the US? I'm an atheist. And I know I ain't one of the few...what type of skewed ass statistic is that? People should be shot for falsifying data.

I don't believe in religion, but I'm not going to knock it either...I don't think I'm better than somebody who buys into religion...it's just not what I subscribe to. And "Willie" Bill O'Reily is a cocksucker.
slurp slurp.

Nobody should be able to impose their set of specialized ethical or moral code upon anyone else. Go ahead and try it, see what happened with the temperance movement and the ban against abortion?
Try and re-illegalize sodomy and impose a ban on same-sex marraige when you have people in the upper echelon of the political arena soliciting sex from underage boys...reaction formation anyone? I have a constitutional right to say I don't think there is a god, or an afterlife, or that life has meaning...and if you're offended...that's not MY fucking problem...that's yours, and I'm just exercising my first ammendment rights.

Keep your moral absolutism out of my face...or, to quote Mike Tyson..."I'll eat your children." And I will too, because I am a godless heathen afterall...and that's what us blasphemers and heretics do.

WU-TANG BITCHES!!!!

skeet skeet skeet.

Thumbs down What The **** Is This Shit???

ISSUE
"Can George Bush, with impunity, state that Atheists
should not be considered either citizens or patriots?"

The History of the Issue

Madalyn O'Hair

When George Bush was campaigning for the presidency, as incumbent vice president, one of his stops was in Chicago, Illinois, on August 27, 1987. At O'Hare Airport he held a formal outdoor news conference. There Robert I. Sherman, a reporter for the American Atheist news journal, fully accredited by the state of Illinois and by invitation a participating member of the press corps covering the national candidates had the following exchange with then Vice President Bush.

Sherman: What will you do to win the votes of the Americans who are Atheists?

Bush: I guess I'm pretty weak in the Atheist community. Faith in god is important to me.

Sherman: Surely you recognize the equal citizenship and patriotism of Americans who are Atheists?

Bush: No, I don't know that Atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.

Sherman (somewhat taken aback): Do you support as a sound constitutional principle the separation of state and church?

Bush: Yes, I support the separation of church and state. I'm just not very high on Atheists.

On October 29, 1988, Mr. Sherman had a confrontation with Ed Murnane, cochairman of the Bush-Quayle '88 Illinois campaign. This concerned a law-suit Mr. Sherman had filed to stop the Community Consolidated School District 21 (Chicago, Illinois, suburb) from forcing his first-grade Atheist son to pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States "one nation under God" (Bush's phrase). The following conversation took place.

Sherman: American Atheists filed the Pledge of Allegiance lawsuit yesterday. Does the Bush campaign have an official response to this filing?

Murnane: It's bullshit.

Sherman: What is bullshit?

Murnane: Everything that American Atheists does, Rob, is bullshit.

Sherman: Thank you for telling me what the official position of the Bush campaign is on this issue.

Murnane: You're welcome

This suit, now in federal district court for over three years, is not considered to be bullshit by the federal judge before whom it is pending. During the time it has been in the federal court, Robert Sherman's son, now age nine, has been physically and psychologically brutalized in his school for refusing to pledge to a "nation under God."

After Bush's election but before his taking office, American Atheists wrote to Bush asking that he consider being sworn into office on the Constitution instead of the Bible and also asking him to retract his August 1987 statement. Bush had his White House buddy, C. Boyden Gray, counsel to the president, reply on White House stationery on February 21, 1989, stating that substantively Bush stood by his original statement.

"As you are aware, the President is a religious man who neither supports atheism nor believes that atheism should be unnecessarily encouraged or supported by the government."

American Atheists had not asked Bush to either "unnecessarily" or even "necessarily" encourage or support them. All they wanted was an apology for the insult. Many Atheists wrote to Bush over the issue and Nelson Lund, the associate counsel to the president, found it necessary to reply on April 7, 1989, directly to the American Atheist General Headquarters, Inc. This letter from the White House said that Mr. Gray was adhering to his statements in the February 21, 1989, letter. On May 4, 1989, Jon Murray, the president of

American Atheists, again wrote to President Bush demanding a clarification of and an apology for his statement that Atheists "should not be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots." Bush ignored the letter, as did Gray and Lund. Mr. Murray also asked for an appointment so that a group of representatives of American Atheists could meet with Bush.

Mr. Joseph W. Hagin 11 responded on May 25, 1989, again on White House stationery. He stated that the president "appreciated your taking the time to write and your willingness to share your thoughts" but that "due to heavy commitments on his official calendar" the president could not meet with representatives of American Atheists. On January 9, 1990, George Bush, in signing a proclamation for the Martin Luther King holiday, had the gall to remark that "bigots" must be brought to justice. Again, American Atheists threw his words back in his face, asking what his designation of Atheists as being unworthy of citizenship was. On February 5, 1990, Mr. Nelson Lund replied again on White House stationery--stating

"We believe that our position has been adequately explained in previous correspondence."

My response...if there is a hell...at least I'll be able to wine and dine with some of these rich conservative ass-pirates over some sulfur and magma, because these (ceterus parabus w/ an afterlife and all) assholes are definitely going downstairs.

Sky blue is pretty no? Or am I really goddamned color blind?
