It was a high school tournament. I had to take our local test they make teachers take at this high school, and they told me not to leave if I had an afternoon session because they were having a wrestling tournament and there would not be parking. Since I only had a morning test (I like to space mine out on different days so I won't go insane) I stayed to watch wrestling. It was pretty cool except that it was hard to watch the injuries (I guess it's harder when they're younger) and it was hard to concentrate because they'd have like five matches going at once.

not as fun as it could have been. however, whats really amusing is thinking about an old, out of shape boozebag like jubaji who trolls internet forums all day long at his cubicle, in between playing with pencils and eating crackers on his desk, getting off work to go play with swords and pretend like he is sonny chiba.

i imagine its something similar to these guys here, except jubaji has an even higher risk of injuring himself than these guys, since he thought for some reason that playing with swords while he was close to blacking out from alcohal was a good idea for him.

What I find curious is this statement from Jubaji:

"No, because I do a little Eishin-Ryu myself."

I think it is awesome that a married adult with a full time teaching job has the time to hack away at the internet all day long, AND study 90 different martial arts. Just as awesome as the one guy who posted that he does 1000 crunches, and 1000 side kicks in one hour. It's just amazing that people who criticize others as being "drooling idiots" have so much darn time on their hands!

Wow! With my wife and kids and a full time job, I have time for approximately ONE hobby. Then other duties like hard work, supporting your family, etc, kick in, and make being a self-proclaimed wise acre and pseudo expert in soooooo many areas of martial arts and politics and chinese culture and history kind of impossible! Well, I am only mortal, I guess!

I am just giving that guy the usual amount of crap, Mike, (and calling a little BS on him-I mean, what hasn't he studied at this point? Who's got the time for all of that?)!

But seriously, I am glad you are enjoying Iado. I can totally understand the appeal, and what you are going for, especially about making the cut and having it stand for everything (If I understood you right)

I had the opportunity to watch an Iado class at the Japanese cultural center here, and it was amazing. I liked it better then the Kendo, actually. I often wonder what makes a person choose to study Iado over Kendo, and how many people do both?

I did score a beautiful damascus sword on eBay, though. I paid $49.99, and I believe I got a real bargain. I haven't found anything by the same maker for under $499.99, so I paid 1/10th of what it was worth (good looks, a killer smile, martial arts godliness, and good at math? Stay back ladies...he's married!). Just managed to get lucky and find it on a no-reserve auction. Here's a pic:

I'm sure it won't be my main blade, but my Dad makes damascus as well, and I love the steel.

Like so many martial arts, iaido is a good excuse to buy more shit.

And I'm not trying to blow holes in your theories or anything, but I've probably dabbled in a couple dozen arts over the years. Not seriously studied, mind you, but done the seminar thing and taken a few private lessons in some, studied others in more depth. Guro Dan is certified at the instructorship level in about twenty. So far all I've heard jubaji talk about is wrestling and iaido...

Yeah, well, when you say it, I tend to believe it. I don't feel the same about Jubaji, but then, you are hardly as arrogant and mean spirited as he is. I just hope to god you are not actually the same person, 'cause then I will look like a real ariesonian a-hole!

But back to your new sword-It looks pretty good! I have a Ninja-to, which was about 200 bucks. I probably could have gotten it cheaper, but what the heck-I like buying weapons too much! It would not last in a real fight, but it is very, very sharp!

Check these out: The hand cut premium bokken are what I have my eye on. A lot of money for a piece of wood, but again, I am a weapon freak:

Keep guessing, pothead. In a few thousand years you're likely to be right about something just by accident.

I think we've covered the part where I've never declared myself an expert in anything, haven't we D.I.? Forgotten already D.I.?

The part where your own ignorance makes you insecure is your problem, shitforbrains.

That was me and what I said was that I do a 1,000 kicks in two hours. They are not all side kicks. I also mix in thrust kicks and round house kicks. Actually 1,000 crunches only takes about 15 minutes but I use an ab roller device and I have been doing them for a lot of years. Gotta keep those abs in shape.

By-the-way, my basement is my dojo thus it cuts down on my time contraints.

I do my kicks in sets of 100 alternating left and right legs..............Sometimes I do them with punches in between ( heavy Bag and speed bag) and somedays I work on kicks only. Hey, I'm only 50 and thats supposed to be the new 40!!!

Super Bowl weekend. Picked up a new private student this week, extra income is coming in handy. Teaching a semi private lesson on Saturday, Friday night romancing the wife, Sunday before the super bowl I'm hoping to get in some kickboxing drills on the heavy bag and some striking drills on the speedbag. What's on tap with you?
