A Leader's Dilemma

I've been thinking a lot about politics (as usual) lately, but in the past few weeks, I've been coming at it from a different angle than I ordinarily do. Partly, this has been because of some really extraordinary experiences and opportunities I've had lately, and partly it's because I've been distancing myself more than usual from the political discussions. It's inspired me to try and conduct a little exercise here.

Please take this as an academic exercise in every respect. This is not a discussion about what YOU personally believe, and I'm going to moderate it pretty heavily to keep the inevitable personal attacks to a minimum. Here's what we need to start:

I need a volunteer to play the role of President.
I need a volunteer to play the role of the collective allies of the President's country.
I need a volunteer to play the enemies of the President's country.
And finally, I need volunteer to play the Press.

Once we get our volunteers, I'll drop the scenario on you. This will no doubt be a fun one, so let's jump in and commit to the game.

Ain't it strange how no one seems to want to be the good guys when it comes to things like this? Everyone seems to know how the President ought to be running things, but no one ever seems to want to step forward and try it for themselves...

Since it's obviously intimidating, I'll make some concessions to the President that will be disclosed upon "election." Suffice it to say that the President will have some excellent advantages to offset some of the disadvantages inherent in this setup.

Once we get the players together, I'll talk about the specific roles.

Fair enough. That covers the tough job. I've sent PMs to several people, but my viewpoint on who might be good at this may differ from yours, so you guys feel free to send out your own "invites." Let's get people who can be intelligent as well as crafty. It'll make it more interesting.

If you like, you can fill a role I failed to mention. That is "The People." Your role will be to listen to what Treelizard says, compare it with what the President says, and form opinions we can attribute to the public. I'm a disinterested observer and neutral mediator in this exercise. I've sent you and treelizard your respective resources via PM, but outside the things I described, I can't interfere. So your staff is yours to choose.

Might I suggest the Hooter's near Gallery Place, though, as a well-qualified pool of potential talent?

Okay, Ghost. You can be the collective adversaries if that's okay. It's too big if we break it down to one at a time, so I want to lump all of the "non-allies" together.
