WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well said.I'm glad someone here agrees with me on the subject of MuayThai being the best as a striking art and the ultimate when combined with some form of grappling.

Hey my art combines those two

My mma school uses mt for striking, wrestling and judo for takedowns, and bjj for groundfighting. Guess I am learning the Ultimate style. Anyway I agree mt or another kickboxing art combined with a grappling art besides tjj will do good.

This combination gives a good fighting style.... in the ring.
It's very funny that most of you guys think fights in the streets are duels with nice rule and don't consider learning to fight with/against weapons as part of any serious SD training.... Even MT comes from an older weapon art named Krabi Krabong.... you can't speak seriously about sd if it doesn't involve weapons...

Most serious fights involve several opponents and weapons don't forget it.........

BJJ has defense against weapons. Here is the best defense against weapons and multiple opponents, run very fast fu. That combination would do perfect in the street as well. Also with most attcks involving weapons and multiples I do not think so. Most attacks are probaly by a single person. But the most reported to the police attacks are multiple opponents and weapons. If people see two people slugging it out they won't report it. But if they see a dude getting beat up or chased by several dudes or a guy with a weapon the will Holy * and call the police.

This is highly questionable......bad guys won't take risks to get you.....

they will: ambush you, attack you with weapons, attack you in number.....
what i call serious fight isn't a fistfight between neighbours over a keyed car where you risk only minor injuries....but mugging, rape, murder attempts......

Depends. Most people do not report 1 on 1 attacks but I do not think most street fights are with "criminals" they are mostly some drunk dude. Muggers may team up but you just give them your money. If you are attacked by multiple attackers then freakin run. If you are forced to fight them then you are going to be relying a lot more on your wits than some scenario training. Besides the MT part of the ma would do good against multiple opponets. BJJ also teaches weapon defense if you are attacked by a weapon. But still your best option would be too run which the conditioning you have gotten would help.

I wouldn't really fear drunk peoples unless they carry weapons.... in my own experience they don't really see what's coming and a surprise eye jab will then end a fight quickly or allow you to run....

I used to live in France and box cutters were very common among youth.... there were youth gangs with them around and a fight could kickly turn ugly....

Now I travel to SEA, to the Philippines most of the time and peoples there wouldn't need much to kill you with knive-machette or gun..... they don't have inhibitions to use weapons and if somebody's loosing in a fistfight his next move could be to slash you with his balisong instead of throwing his next punch... 30% of peoples there carry blades, especially criminals....
Druggies there won't sometimes just rob you but stab you for fun.....

Running is the best solution but isn't always possible (if you are not alone or don't know the surroundings)..... there are some basic tactics everybody should know to deal against multiple opponents and some martial arts are more usefull in this case t (of course your instructor will need solid street experience).....
I prefer to carry small blades whenever I can but even a piece of metal or a ballpen can do some serious damage if you know how to use

MT has good strikes you could use against unarmed opponents, but the tactics of this art are not designed to deal with multiple or/and armed opponents....
and it doesn't teach you how to use weapons....
If you like Thai arts Krabi Krabong (ancestor of Muay Thai) would be better.
Filipino martial art (arnis, silat) or russian martial arts (systema. ross) are good weapon arts....

I didn't learn bjj weapon defenses while doing bjj but saw two defenses against knive thrusts on a journal by one of the Gracies, being into fmas for years I can assure you they'd get you killed....

To defend successfully against weapons you need to know how they are used....
Some knife attacks will come at very subtle angles and unexperienced persons won't be able to do anything against them....

Fine, fine we will add kali with the mt and bjj okay. My mma practices weapon defense we spar with a one knife vs. unarmed often.

Haha sounds much better now..... you have been to the Philippines, did you hear of Dumog, Yaw Yan and (filipino) Judo Combat?
I was taugh a little Judo combat, on the ground it looks like bjj but with nasty strikes...

When I first saw Yaw Yawn I thought it was just muay thai until Sifu told me it was kinda like Phillipino version of mt striking wise. Judo combat I might have seen. I did see some people at the meet that were striking each other pretty hard on the ground and the style did not look like Dumog. Ahh those good ole days.

Yes Dumog is nice.... I too wrestled with one competitor and also showed me some things.... Actually there are two styles of Yaw Yan, one is stand up only the other includes grapling-groundfighting and weapons... here is a link: http://users.netropolis.net/yawyan/

The Judo combat I saw is nasty.... lots of elbow strikes to defend against kicks and strikes while bringing the opponent down... I still remember my guro hitting me in the groin while chocking me on the ground....

Are you no longuer competing? Were you in WC?

Ya I still compete but when my Shaolin instructor moved back to China I did not have enouph money to travel to all the places he took us for tournaments. The tournaments I went too with my Shaolin instructor were not the publicized types actually besides the people competing no one knew about them.

Looks like kind of all asian mixed martial arts (#kung fu, dumog, yaw yan, judo combat...). I'd like to see this too... I also heard there are mixed Muay Thai-Silat-Kuntao tournaments at the Thai-Malaysian border and would like to see one of them but they are illegal...
