    Default Trad MA weapons

    Nunchaku

    Tonfa

    Sai

    Shuriken

    Bo

    Chain weapons

    Naginata

Shoalin thing like nunchaku but with three bits.

Nunchaku were origionaly rice flails, tonfa were used for husking rice and shuriken were useful because they were easily concealed. They were used because the people of okinawa were not allowed to carry weapons.

Would these weapons be useful in a fight? I know it's unlikely but imagine you're in a martial arts shop and someone starts a fight or something.

What sort of techniques would be best? Which weapon would you pick up and why?

I'm trying to come up with ideas for origional threads. It's not easy.

smack him in the head with the sai, that's more the way to use it
even without any training in it you can use it as described
And it is about the smallest weapon in the list appart from bare hands

Í would take the Katana, because that is basically the only weapon I have trained with.

    Default My choice

I'd go with Tonfa or Telescoping Baton, or perhaps grab a blow dart gun and run like up some stairs or wait till someone else distract him and get him in the neck.....niiice, actually when my friend and I went into Ninja World, we pondered the very same thing.

An advantage of using your hands or a blunt weapon is that your less likely to seriously hurt them (legal considerations). I think that the nunchaku might have a psychological impact (they would never have been hit by one before).

I suppose it also depends on who is attacking you and why, and what wepons you've trained with. Even the size of the shop and how many people are there could make a difference. If you know that the person you are fighting is a MMA expert then you're probably better off with a weapon. If it is a very small shop there might not be room to use a large weapon.

I'm very pleased with the replies so far. No one has insulted me or told me that this thread is stupid.

After some thinking (and Lizards advise) I would take a Bokken. Then I would not kill anyone (hopefully). Of course it would be best to run.

Lizard, now you are asking for it.... this thread is s...funny

no seriously, if you are trained to use any of the weapons than that would be the most logical choise, my choise of sai was based on not being trained, it is short and can be used as a club

Swinging a nunchuk untrained might harm you just as much as the attacker
Arnis sticks are a very good weapon
in the past there were some mixed weaponsmatches, both were clothed in safety padding and the Arnis/kali/escrima people beat all others
but hitting a guy that's build like Vanderlei Silva with a rattan stick, I din't think that will do much, hitting him on the head with the sai, might make a nice slot in his braincap

This thread is about traditional martial arts weapons, you're not allowed to use a chair. I know it's used extensively in WWE-do but that doesn't count.

Otherwise tables ladders and wastebins would be valid too

I've even seen them attack each other with milk, and plastic heads. WWE wrestlers are masters of weapon techniques. They're also good at using their environment to their advantage, if there's a table nearby the opponent will end up going through it.

i would say for me a bunch of cds and cut people with them by throwing them. then if that doesn't work then i take some paper and give them a paper cut.

I know this martial arts weapon isn't on the list but tey were used once, claws. metal claws that allowed the user incorporate lengthy metalic claws that made the users very deadly lol. I'm not sure if it were really effective but i just thought it would be neat if we could use claws to enhance our fighting capabilities.

Well, I guess I'd take a stick or some sort of bladed weapon (knife ,machete, sword of some sort) since it is the "traditional" MA weapons I am most familiar with and have lying about the house.
