Talking Judo Mats

Where is the best place (online stores/local areas) to purchase judo mats? Also how would one go about "springing the floor"? I heard that's supposed to be done before laying down the judo mats.

Depends on your budget. They come in a great variety of sizes and quality.

I have enough (trust me). What places would you suggest?

I see them in Black belt and the century catalog all of the time. Even gracie has his own line. How many are you looking to buy? Are you buying top of the line?

It's not for an actual dojo, but my basement. Think I'll need about [3 - 5] 8' x 10' mats. I've checked out Cartwheelfactory.com, MatsMatsMats.com, AWMA, and Mike Swain's online store also. I just want feedback from you all on some of these products. That's all.

P.S. Hardball, have you heard about "springing the floor" before laying your mats down? What do you do?

No, never heard of that one; we don't leave our mats down. You have to be careful they can get mold and germs from the sweat. My instructor has an advanced degree in biology and we clean out matts with alchohol about every other use. I use mine in the backyard a lot, the grass helps with breaking the fall.
