Greetings,

Anybody start their school out of their backyard or basement? What experiences can you share? Advice?

I'm fortunate, I have a huge backyard and a decent size basement.

Exclamation Talk to the owner of WarriorRage.com

When you have the chance, talk to Scott Bolinger (one of the members here). Half of his house is used as a training facility for boxers and kickboxers.

if your trying to get into a school, i would say, speak about this school, as if its already a school (because it is). advertise, take advantage that you don't pay rent, so advertise paid ads and flyers, but dont put your address on the ad, just a phone number.

it's just like any business and you can claim taxes, a percentage of the utilities, improvements to your facility and milage to and from events. But , try and make more money than you spend. Thats usually the biggest trick.

if your in a placed zoned residential, you may have to get a special use permit to get yourself as a legitimate business. If your just goofing around trainig, thats no big deal, but if your wanting to create a business, then you should go through the extra steps. But if your house is commersial you shouldn't have to do anything. My new house is commercialy zoned.

looking for good affordable insuance is sometimes a trick. If your going with amateur boxing, the goto USA Boxing - Home and you can get club insurance there as well as coaches insurance and athlete insurance. For Tae Kwon Do, you can goto USA Taekwondo or USSSA or Amateur athletics union
