Sure if you consider dehydration and non-muscular weight gain a benefit...lol.

If it gets you pumped up though, whose gonna stop you?

Be careful if you're lifting weights and drinking. I have a friend who seriously fudged himself up doing that. We're talking multiple shoulder surgeries.

I'm not a smoker. I like a nice beer or glass of wine every once in a while, but not when I'm lifting.

If you can't at least wait 'till your workout is done to have a beer, you've got some serious issues. And if you spend half your life high, sooner or later you're gonna find out you can't turn the 'stupid' off when you want to.

dehydration from the alcohol...the carbination is an issue too with the beer.

Alcohol before working out and smoking (for at least 24 hours...anything, pot, ciggies) is deletorious to anything you do in the gym.

Here...I'll relate this to you; I chain smoke. I have a real bad nicotine dependence...and I occassionally binge drink on the weekends. Because of this, my heart rate and my blood pressure are FUCKED. Not only that, but cardio is a bitch, but the worst part is circulation. Because I smoke alot, it has sorta altered the way my body conserves and uses oxygen...and with a decrease in oxygen, an increase in bad gasses, the poor circulation to my limbs, and the blood pressure thing...it has given me a problem.

If I smoke before I work out, say I run a mile and then go and do some lifts...by the time I hit my last set, my ears start to feel hot, I can't catch my breath, and I start getting faint and feel a slight tinglining numbness in my limbs. This is essentially an anxiety attack, and is caused by a problem with the sino-aortic baroflex arc...it's alot like the type of problem some people have when they have blood drawn. I literally have to lie down for about an hour after a workout, or I will pass out.

That's not healthy. But I use my smoking as a way (this is ironic) to help cope with anxiety...compulsively. I have a tolerance and a dependence...and am a nicotine (fiend) addict....so it's very, VERY difficult for me to quit. Right now, I'm titrating out the amount I smoke in a day, and over the course of a week to get to the point where I can alter or modify my rituals when I'm under stress...and try to avoid trigger situations to help myself quit.

Addiction is a motherfucker. When you have a tolerance (I'm guessing it takes a bit to get you blazed) and a dependence (needing the substance to feel normal or ok) then you've technically got an addiction to a thing. Marijuanna is not, all in all, that bad. If you have to consume, or have no intention of quitting...switch to fucking brownies. Stop smoking...that's what does the damage, it's all the gas and shit and the superheated air that does the damage.

Stop smoking pot. Start eating it if you need to...but smoking is stupid.

I'm going out for a Newport. ****!!!!

I know some people that say that suds goes great with everything including deer hunting. It seems to me that some things like hunting and martial training just should not mix with tall ones.

Once in a rare while I'll get home late on a weekend night and feel too wound up to relax so I'll go out back to my shed and hit the heavy bag for a while. I'd never deliberately drink before I go to the gym though. When I do that it's more a matter of burning off some excess energy than it is a valid training session.

If we talk about self defence, we have to agree that, those of us who drink...., may one day be attacked when we have had a few!

So training (carefully!) when under the influence may be a good idea now and again.

But only train in order to recognise the adverse effects the alcohol has on your timing, accuracy etc. Don't do hard physical exercise whilst under the influence.
