Hey Hardball
Whoa, I surely appreciate what you are saying, but no offence was intended. Just because somebody is a black belt doesn’t necessarily mean they understand how to protect themselves in a violent street assault. The seminar I am teaching is to provide people with best option tactics for the street (Pre, During & Post Contact). There are many who do not train with this in mind and need this material. Remember that a lack of knowledge in this area only breeds anxiety when the sh+t hits the fan. Just a little understanding will provide people with options for their survivability. Take care out there Joe |

I'm confused...
the art of the sucker punch. see...here's the thing about a sucker punch or any "suprise attack", there is NO defense. WHY? Because you're taken by suprise. Is this seminar teaching you how to sucker punch somebody? I know where to get a crash course (the local Irish style pub). |

The “Sucker Punch” is not necessarily a surprise attack. Technically a surprise attack would fall under the category of an “Ambush.” This definition, although textbook, would be clarified in both military and police arenas.
With that said, many are surprised by a sucker punch because they do not understand the pre-contact points of the violent confrontation. One of the main issues here is that the delivery system is not one of a physical, but rather a biological and/or psychological platform. In other words the victim was “surprised” because in his world a fight begins with two people squaring off and in an abstract way consent to fight each other. Here is where I’ll say, “Welcome to the real world.” Countering anything generally falls into three categories: early phase, mid phase and late phase. An early phase counter to a sucker punch would be recognising all the cues and going pre-emptive; a mid-phase counter would be intercepting the attack with forward explosive motion and a late phase counter would be you have been hit (possibly knocked down) and learn your best option tactics from there. Many systems do not practice this portion thinking that every tactic will always work. Remember, there are only maybes and maybe nots. This seminar actually covers quite a lot of verbal defusing, which in my opinion the most important and overlooked lifesaving skill one can possess on the street. It also covers the “post” portion of the fight- you have successfully countered this guy, the police arrive, so what happens next? And lastly, yes I do go through a list of common sucker punch attacks and teach the good guy how to successfully use these tactics against a criminal. Cheers Joe |
