Just got my copy today and the dvd is out and available at:
http://www.thephysicalbody2.com This dvd is 90 minutes long and features several different wrestling training centers or akharas then shifts to the different dangals which are weekly, monthly and yearly which are the largest. The first dvd the physical body: indian wrestling and physical culture(http://www.thephysicalbody.com) was more focused on specific exercises and how they are done and how they fit into the realm of indian physical culture. This second dvd really goes into the daily training of the akhara. The first akhara gives the feel the best because it shows how they train the young kids, it feels almost effortless how the dvd uncovers the training, you really get an inside look even at the harsh moments when kids make a mistake and get a sharp slap in the face every time they repeat the mistake. I especially got alot out of the third akhara because the structure seemed regimented and you could easily follow along with the warm up, throws, weight routine, cool down regimen. The second akhara featured a nice bit on massage with parallels to southern kalari massage and thai massage as well as jor. The fourth focuses on diet and what they eat which is important and you actually see how the younger wreslters prepare the food for the older more senior ones. The dangals come fast in the second half with a focus on the mud wrestling first, the dangal ends with everyone running over to another spot to watch cockfighting!, the second dangal spotlights how the dangal can be a split modern competition and a mud wrestling one and thematches here are quite good, that dangal ends in a brawl int he crowd! the third dangal is the major one with all the elaborate festivities and is done in the modern olympic type of way which is overshadowing the ancient Kushti. The second volume flows seemlessly from the first one and elaborates and moves from there. I thought it was better in alot of ways than Physical body 1 but they work so well together that its hard to pull them apart. I cant recommend this more highly, it runs 90 minutes but just flies by not a boring moment. I found out Physical Body 3: Tactics and Training ROutines is in the works which will be primarily an instructional. So I look forward to that as well to conclude the series. George |

The Physical Body 2 is really well done. Not only do you get a clear inside look
on what happens in the akharas during a typical training day, but you also get to see specific movements during the training sessions and right after you see the same movements applied during competition fights. There's not much to be added to George's review since he covered the whole dvd pretty well. It's great work, you really get the feeling to be in the akhara as well. As in the Physical Body 1, you can even follow the warm up routine if you wish. |

Good reviews:
"The Physical Body Two is an outstanding documentary on the lifestyle, training and competition of the traditional Indian wrestler. *The film includes detailed explanations of the philosophy and methods of training, various examples of complete workouts, demonstrations of wrestling techniques and concludes with footage of actual wrestling competitions. *I recommend this DVD to anyone interested in Indian wrestling in particular, as well as those with an interest in traditional martial arts, wrestling or Indian physical culture". Tim Cartmell; Two time Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Pan American champion author, effortless throws "I was (and still am) a big fan of the first volume of this series but, I must admit, that I find this second volume even more fascinating. Here we find greater detail regarding the training methods and far more matches included to observe this native art in its proper environment. Vincent has done all wrestling aficionados and martial arts historians a huge service with this series of DVDs. I can't recommend them more highly." Mark hatmaker, author Gladiator conditioning |

Theres a new dvd by Richard Maguire that fits in nicely here on indian club swinging especially heavy clubs at
http://www.agelesstrength.com If you have the first two phyiscal body dvds, this one fits in nicely because it goes into directly working with the light and heavy clubs. Check it out for those interested! |
