What are the odds?
Back in HS I had a classmate named Robert. Out of more than 30,000 kids to apply for (the last year for) the YCC he and I were both selected. I met him at summer camp. We cleaned up campgrounds and picnic areas, cleared trails up Bear Mtn. and climed Mt Hood. We built a log raft and drifted around Clear lake on it. A couple years later I'm standing in line at the chow hall down in SanDiego Ca, Just one of several thousand new recrutes and who do I see across the room marching in. That's right... my buddy Robert. We got like five minutes to eat no time to chat we say a few words, he thinks I'm lucky to be in a "Drill" company 904. Turns out we would have time to talk later in "A" school... I met him again in Millington, Tn. at the technical training command! Later all...

Or what! I didn't do the pub thing back then, I would catch hops to distant bases and see if I could make it back before I went AWOL... Some good fishing holes back there on the East side of the big river. Meanwhile back in NATTC, I spent more than three months TAD due to schedualing conflicts. I got stuck in the buffer repair shop for some SERIOUSLY EASY duty... Might have more fun than the GSE Pool!

Yeah, I took a flight whenever and where ever... sometimes it would be from another base but yeah I've jumped the big birds too. I never heard that story... too funny. Bulls? No. Snowball fights? No. I was there from like may to aug/ sept. The guy fixing them buffers was ME. We switched gears there from the cast metal alloys to the new carbon fiber ones! They weren't much better but they were a lot more quiet... You know,... the gears are the parts that break when you guys try to RIDE them! LOL
