Didnt really know what to call this thread... but its basically about the title... a specific soldier though.
Last night I was at a party and a kid who joined the army, and is now a "soldier"... was there... he was back from basic training I think... just to let everyone know this is the canadian army... save the jokes... we rock ass. Or do we?... I questioned a few things about his training, I like to see if I can sneak up on people or what not, and this guy was completely clueless, following him from behind in an open field, stalking him after he left the major part of the party to get something from his car, among other things, he never noticed me, and at points I was really close, dangerously close even. Another thing was his knife defense, which reminded me horribly of Dale form king of the hills ba gua, where he tells bill to wrap his arms around him in a bearhug, and when he cant get out he says hold your arms like this. The kid, demonstrating to another kid, says (im calling him a kid but hes my age) so he says... attack me like this.... which granted was a basic thrust at about the face/neck level. His technique, was to kinda step to the side, grab the fore arm, with a overhand, (think pullup, not chinup) grip, and then pull the guy forward while kneeling down and going to the side, he kinda ended up near the guys shoulder. Jokingly the kid said but what if I did this, and made a little feint with the "knife" then proceeded to "knife" the kid in the ribs.... Dont you think the army should be teaching better things than this, I realize his first defense would be shoot the guy with the knife in the face, but what kind of hand to hand training are they getting. What kind of awareness training are they getting?.... I'm a bit shocked.... I expected more from a soldier I guess, I found so many things wrong with his knife defense and all that, granted no knife defense is flawless, but really.... Any thoughts/opinions , I know this is where I will get the most military/informed responses on the subject.... even if I do have to deal with getting a response from boarspear. Haha just joking, I actually want to know what he thinks about this as well as others.

welcome to the real world...the military isnt really interested in creating warriors anymore, they get cantankerous in old age and arent the best of citizens anymore (or so ive heard) they want people who do what they are told without thinking about the end result of said actions. They also prefer gizmo's and gadgets to do the dirty work...nobody wants killers coming home to roam the streets after the war. Remember 1 can train 10, 10 can train 100 and so on...lots of people pass through a nations military and many are less than impressed when all is said and done...plus proper training takes time and money...also it isnt technique that makes warriors its mindset...the only place for that mindset is special forces, and they really dont like having to train them either. i wont go so far as to say we turn out bullet sponges but its not too far from the truth. Now many people will say h2h and bayonet/knife is obsolete in todays military...BS the training builds a mindset whether you ever use those skills or not. See the "bringing a knife to a gun fight" thread i posted in military tactics....you think any of those guys or thier families think its obsolete? a major misconception is just because the police and military are taught a certain way it must make sense...not always true...it just the easiest way to train lots of people...also realize during peace time no one feels it neccessary to train higly skilled warriors and during war there is seldom time to do so...in fact often times training is shortened to get boots on the ground.you asked for a boarspear (sort of) rant you got one.
