Yeah, but if you have cow poop, you probably have cows, and if that's the case, I think there's maybe better things to eat than the rest of your party...

Let's look for some dry fibrous, tinders and collect them in a spot. Then place some dried out wood around the tinders.

Mike, how good is windshield at magnifying sunlight?

Once we get the fire stuff together, lets sharpen some rocks so we can take down a cow. Hopefully sharpened rocks will be able to cut through the cow so we can get it into pieces.

A windshield is truly abysmal at firestarting. Awful.

However, since you have something fibrous, you might want to research a technique used by several of the New Guinea tribesmen that involves starting a fire with a length of plant cord. Similar to the bow or hand drill method, except without the drill part of the mechanism. You simply drag your cordage over or across a fireboard to create your ember. With practice, it's fast and effective - two things that are most desirable in a frozen wasteland.

And while cooking cows is not a bad idea, they're perfectly consumable raw. And they keep well in frozen environments.

You know, something a little gruesome and yet intriguing just occurred to me. I remember doinga dissection of a cow eyeball in science class in the 7th or 8th grade. We actually used the retina as carbon paper. I wonder if the lens from an eyeball could be used ot make fire? Does it cloud too much after death? Is it too weak? Might be an interesting experiment.

Oh, and Tom, I don't know how many cows you've ever been around in your lifetime, but I can tell you one thing with some certainty. you don't exactly have to "hunt" cows. You can pretty much lead them over to the fire pit and bonk them over the head with a big rock. You can pretty much "hunt" cows with a hammer...

Hmmmm, we have a few head of cattle on our land in the country. How do you keep the cows from knocking you to death while you hit them in the head with a hammer?

Catch them while they're asleep, of course! Haven't you ever gone cow tipping?

I've been around a few cows, mostly at my grandfather's farm.

Plus there used to be a few fields near my folks home that had them;I wasn't suggesting cow-hunting but I think it might try to ram one of us?

I was talking about spearing with the sharpened rocks or sharpened sticks to weaken it first. I got the idea from the concept of the picadores? as used in bullfights in Mexico/Spain.

Gunny24 is on a distinguished road
Default Las Vegas livin'

Funny how a little ridiculousness suddenly makes the old feel new again huh!!!???!!! I figure if I've gone native long enough, the government must have shown up by now to reclaim the land...force me onto a reservation in some hellish spot....I languished in misery for a while...now am trying to capitalize on the situation by offering low rent hotels, piss poor entertainment, life changing gambling, and disguising it as the adult playground of the continent.
