Default Camel Spiders

http://www.camelspiders.net/

Never heard of these before.

Is that picture a wound from a bite or a hoax?

looks real to me. these things are horrible. But most of them aren't any bigger than a quarter inside cities - the bites are still hell though.

Are they edible?

if you ever run into a decent sized one in person, you can try it. I've seen the effects of their bites in person - the idea of eating one is horrifying

heres a cousin of the camel spider

this is a whipscorpian I saved from a boot, they are native to the southwestern US

I tried to save as many of them as possible on the job in Eagle Pass. they are not poisonous and very docile, the local population calls them "peligrio's" ruffly translated "little dangerous one" but alot of old wives tales about them
"if they bite you they wont let go till the sun goes down" "the tail is very poisonous" and so on

but like the camel spider they look a hell of alot worse than they actually are.

What are the best bugs to eat?

I've eaten a toasted grub - it was kinda like a tiny cracker...

be careful with snakes, they give you gas! that could be dangerous and give away your position!

most turtles are damn good especially snappers or softshell turtles excellent meat and the eggs arent shabby except that the yolks dont harden when you cook them. I have caught turtles sunning on a log just to show off, its not that hard if you can tread water good.

having coon-ass(cajun) blood in my family I have eaten most anything that walks crawls or flys! ( anyone remember my longwinded armadillo post? )

I have heard that grubs are good survival food if your diet in the brush is too lean.

anyways juts rambling on before I go back out on the road......

From what I remember snake tastes like chicken and gator tatstes like a cross between chicken and fresh water fish.

Haven't had rocky mountain oysters yet.
