I hate em both 1911's are sloppy unless you can afford a Kimber, Glocks...

you can have them...there are some great pistols out there, but i wont insult them by naming them in the same post with Sold out and Worthless and glock

I believe I can feel comfortable with either one with enough practice and a few thousand rounds at the range.

Everybody tells me that Glocks are the best and easiest to start out with, have the best accessories available, reliable, good size, easy to clean, easy to maintain, etc.

But almost every woman I know who carries has a 1911 and loves it, the only argument I've heard so far is that Glocks feel like 2X4s and they like the sleek feel better...

The H&K P7 is also a great choice for EDC. It has some features I really like...

When I was stationed in Germany in the U.S. Army, I learned to love the Govt. 1911. I didn't realize that we were fortunate enough to be issued brand new ones for guard duty. To get new ones was very rare They were very tight and accurate. I had never even shot a pistol before, and the Captain couldn't believe how well I shot it.

I later joined the Coast Guard Reserve, and we went to the range to qualify. We were given these sloppy things that looked like they were World War II vintage with tens of thousands of rounds run through them. The thing rattled in your hand and threw the slugs all over the paper. If I could, I would have thrown it at the target and been more accurate.

My point is that the 1911/A1 is a GREAT gun if you get a high quality one that hasn't been shot to death. My Springfield Armory is wonderful. Very accurate. I would look at the top of the line Springfield or Kimber. The S&W looks nice, but I have never fired one.

I hate Glocks with a passion, but realize they are very good guns for those who like them. They only way to know for sure if you like any firearm handles is to run it throught the paces.

All right, I'll admit it, my hidden ulterior motive for this thread was my desire to find someone to debate 1911 vs. Glock for my website. I've got a Glock guy already and he makes a very convincing argument. So if anyone wants to do a "point counterpoint" debating the pros of the 1911 (any brand) and cons of Glocks, let me know. Pictures will be required.

I've never fired either of the above mentioned, but have been told that the glock has a very, very sensitive trigger.

The sensitive trigger could possibly be a liability.

The glock has a shorter grip and relies on the magazine to get the rest of the hand.

I didn't look at the S&W 1911, rather the Kimber 1911. It has a wider and bit longer grip.

As Ness suggests and I found out, security is more important and you would rather fire a gun with the real intention of firing it, rather than having an accidental brush setting it off.

I'm not an expert, so I'll just bow out.

Sorry to revive this old thread, but I just wanted to point out that the magazine is not part of the length of the handle except for the subcompact weapons. There are three basic sizes: full size, compact and subcompact.

Also there's a 5.5lb trigger pull and it shouldn't be touchy, unless someone messed with the trigger.

Man I missed this thread? awww, well heres my .02,

glocks as stated have a feel unlike any other single or double action auto,
That being said they do have a few fans, the 1911 is an old design but anything thats been around that long is here for a reason. Oh yes and you can buy a kit or get a gunsmith to convert your 1911 to 9mm, or better yet .38 super. The 1911 in .38 super is a favorite of the Mexican Policia (local cops not the federales) as they are prohibited from using military caliber firearms.
