Mike: I don't know if I agree with your Iraq War analysis or not, I'd have to study it a good deal more, but your first point on the UAE was sort of my gut reaction from the start. The UAE and Dubai in particular are emerging as contenders in the world business market. Dubai especially is unusual in that only a small proportion of its GNP comes from oil reserves, its primary cash cow is trade, to which end they've established the Jebel Ali Free Zone with many incentives to establish business there. They allow 100% foreign ownership of businesses, no import duties, and a bunch of other business incentives that have made the Port of Dubai 13th in the world in container traffic. Sponsorship of terrorism doesn't make sense from the UAE -- it would be shockingly bad for business.

As to your second and by far more relevant issue: that's pretty heady stuff. I'm going to have to go drag out a CIA factbook and get back to you before I can respond either way.

Get well soon on that leprosy, by the way.

I tried to continue looking into the issue at hand, but I was distracted by pink and purple spotted elephants with little tiny wings floating around my house. I chased them outside with a flyswatter in one hand and my bedroom slipper in the other, only to realize (much to the dismay of the school bus driver and her flock) that I was entirely naked except for said flyswatter and slipper. The good news was the combination of NyQuil, alcohol, and antibiotics acted strangely like viagra, so I was able to cover my goods by hanging the slipper on a convenient protuberance until I got back inside. The bad news was that as soon as I got inside, the dangling slipper caught the attention of my cat, which flung itself ninjalike onto the slipper and the wedding tackle therein. The nurses said I should be able to pee normally within a few weeks.

Needless to say, I haven't made much progress in researching DPW since this morning. Now, I'm sitting here with a bandaged weenie wearing a loincloth and a football helmet, slurping Captain Morgan's through a twisty straw. I thought about taking some more NyQuil, but the aftertase is awful, and it messes with the rum. Maybe I'll mix it with some lime juice and mint and have a NyQuil Mojito! Or maybe I'd better just go and lie down.

Let me know if you all find anything good on the issue at hand.
LOL....Mike, you allright, man?

That's a funny image, but I hope you're ok....

All of this stuff happening: Our troops being wasted in Iraq, instead of where they are really needed. Osama still alive. Gas prices sky-hi, Forests being sold to private companies, school children being taught that the earth is only 6 years old, and now....dubai taking over our ports.

All of this happened for a very simple reason. You people who took one look at John Kerry- (who was portrayed as being french--meaning "gay") and his wife with the witches hair, and you compared them to Bush, who looks great in a cowboy hat and has a stepford-looking wife, and you said HELL NO!!

You believed the hype coming from Karl Rove, that John Kerry was a fake and a phony and wishy washy and french, and you said "these people don't represent me" I drive a truck, I listen to country, I like budweiser....I got nothing in common with John Kerry or his hippy wife, and you voted for someone who looks the part better.

Fact is, Dubya is an east coast IVY leaguer, not a real comboy, but every picture showed him in Craford, driving the same truck you drive, and wearing the same hat, jeans and belt buckle you wear, drinking the same brand of beer. In fact, GW was a yell leader at Harvard for crying out loud! That's a male cheerleader, in case you were wondering. He never went to vietnam, so I have a hard time believing that all the current servicepeople and veterans so willingly backed this guy! His buddy Dick Cheney--had "other priorities" then to go to Vietnam.

I wish people would see things the way they really are. John Kerry was on a swiftboat cruising the jungles of NAM. Sure, he took a lot of pictures and bragged a bit, but what service person doesn't? I sure did! (US ARMY 1984-88)

Any of you hardcore conservative republicans should seriously search your soul and ask this of yourselves:

If Hilary Clinton had been elected instead of GW, and had done the exact same things while in office, what would you people be saying? If she sold our ports to the UAE, what would you say? If she was wiretapping us, what would you say?

I can already guess that Rush Limbaugh and Matt Drudge would be HOWLING!!!

I sincerely hope that the next president is someone who knows what he is doing, like McCain or Guliani..hell, I would even take Hilary C at this point. I am selfish, I just want to see my stocks make money, and under the current regime, it ain't happening!

wow I really dont like the "See I told you so" attitude. Do you REALLY believe that things would be that much better under Kerry? This country has been politically stagnant since the death of JFK. the Lobbyists run the country pal wake up, if they told Kerry to jump he'd simply ask "How high?"
Kerry let the DEM party run down the good name of Gen. Wesley Clark in a backstabbing frenzy that made my stomach turn!!!! and you think he would be the opposite of Bush? LAUGH!!!!!!! Kerry voted for the Iraq war he voted in the Patriot act without even reading the whole document (as did most politicos) does that sound like the guy you want running the show? DEMS cry about socialized medicine while they help keep corporate medical patents upheld that prevent poor africans from getting AIDS medicine and us from getting cheaper generic drugs here at home!! for Christs sake the Taliban Visited UNOCAL in Sugarland Texas in 96' or 97' while Clinton was in office!!!
What exactly was the Talibans relationship with AL Queda at this point in time?? The DEMS are simply using this in their build up to making a move to grab back power in the 96 elections. Was Kerry on the Phone with Bush screaming at him to screw the damn "Posse comitatus act" and get some help moving? Hell no he was out doing what politicians do best, not a damn thing!!!

Gonzo, I don't really like John F. Kerry that much either, but in my way of thinking, he is the lesser of two evils. With Kerry, sure we would have had extreme left wingnuts as lobbyists, but we also would not have the religious conservatives in charge either. it's PETA vs Fallwell or Pat Robertson....I am going to have to go with PETA, though I can't stand either of them!

You conservatives are right to point out that the democrats have veered way farther to the left then most americans really are, but your neocons took too much advantage of that rift, and suckered in the kind of voters that eat meat, drive trucks, like guns and beer, and are lower middle class...these people used to vote democratic. I blame the Barbara striesands and sean penns in the world for that, because they portrayed my party as the tofu berry, birkenstock we love saddam party...and that does not represent me. I just want science and evolution and biology taught is school, and I could care less whether fagellas want to get married. I just don't want my children having to learn how to speak chinese to survive, because that;s the next superpower! Give me a rational, non religious conservative and I might vote for him or her, but anyone that would hire a freak like John Ashcroft (who thinks dancing is evil) just plain scares me. There has to be a middle ground, and right now, niether party is there. The average american is right in the middle, but the Bushies skillfully used the fear of terrorism to advance an agenda they already had planned!
I would love to see Osama's head on a pike, but I doub't I will see that anytime soon. And I don't want our major ports run by arabs, and I don't care which party is in charge of that deal...it sucks!! You conservatives act like all democrats are Hanoi Jane, and that is not really the truth. I'm not fonda hanoi jane, nor tim robbins, nor barbara streisand. They don't represent me anymore then Dick Cheney represents you. He doesn't. You are a martial artist, and I doub't you would have weasled your way out of service to your country.

I believe my main opposition to Bush is his allignment with the christian right in this country. I find those people to be a huge threat to our constitution, and I say this actually coming from the viewpoint of a christian. I go to church regularly, so whereas I practice family values at home, I don't wish to push those same values on the rest of the population. I worry that Bush believes he is "gods" tool and that his view that the end times are extremely near, it does not really matter what damage is done to the planet environmentally. I just dont trust him to do the right thing. I personally do not believe someone so anti-science and anti-enviroment should be in charge of policy. Reading Margaret Atwood's "the handmaids tale" is a good example of what this country would be like in the future if a tailiban type christian right government takes over. Yes, the example in that book is extreme, but slowly and bit by bit, the christian right is chipping away at our constitution. Bush appoints the very supreme court justices that could put this type of thing into practice.

As to Kerry, I think he would be more well recieved in europe (He is pretty french looking, I agree) and would make america look less bad then we now do. We have to live with the EU, so I want them squarely on our side against the terror threat.

But, I would agree with you that Mcain would probably be my first choice. Joe Lieberman would be another choice I would accept, and Rudy Guliani is also someone I trust completely. I would have to hold my nose to vote for Hilary, because like many, I just don't like her. But if the choice is an extreme hard right candidate with ties to the evangelical right, I would have to pick Hilary.

So, in a nutshell, Mccain looks like the best bet. He has many of the qualifications that you need to run this country, and I see kindness in his eyes, and I think he is truly fair. Basically, I want a moderate centrist from either party.

("kindness in his eyes" is a bit much.)

So, who would you choose as his running mate then?

-Rudy?
-Mitt?
-Condi?
-Jeb?
-A Cocker Spaniel?

That would be a tough ticket to beat in the general election, but they would both have a rough time in the primaries.
