anyone care to talk about the difference? I was trying to explain this the other day, In a TRUE silenced weapon the projectile and propellent gas exit the barrel at subsonic velocity (1100 fps at sealevel) while a suppressor muffles the report, distorts the sonic boom and slows down the propellent gas to subsonic velocity. so does using a naturally subsonic round (like
.45acp) make the silenced weapon more effective? it seems slowing down a 9mm round would reduce its allready marginal effectiveness. I know that there have been subsonic cartridges (30 whisper) developed specifically for sniping with a silencer. has anyone had any experiance with the SIONICS or other suppressors on supersonic rounds like 5.56 from an m4? I have seen them fired but would like to get an idea of how they function from some one who has seen/fired one in person. |
