On June 28, 2005 sixteen men died while conducting combat operations when the MH-47 helicopter that they were aboard crashed in the vicinity of Asadabad, Afghanistan in Kunar Province. That same day, three other men died while conducting counter-terrorism operations on the ground in Kunar province, Afghanistan.

Army Staff Sgt. Shamus O. Goare, 29, of Danville, Ohio. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Hunter Army Air Field, Georgia.

Army CWO Corey J. Goodnature, 35, of Clarks Grove, Minnesota. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Hunter Army Air Field, Georgia.

Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Daniel R. Healy, 36, of Exeter, New Hampshire. He was assigned to SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team One, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Army Sgt. Kip A. Jacoby, 21, of Pompano Beach, Florida. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Hunter Army Air Field, Georgia.

Navy Lt. Cmdr. Erik S. Kristensen, 33, of San Diego, California. He was assigned to SEAL Team Ten, Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Jeffery A. Lucas, 33, of Corbett, Oregon. He was assigned to SEAL Team Ten, Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Navy Lt. Michael M. McGreevy, Jr., 30, of Portville, New York. He was assigned to SEAL Team Ten, Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Army Sgt. 1st Class Marcus V. Muralles, 33, of Shelbyville, Indiana. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Hunter Army Air Field, Georgia.

Navy Lt. Michael P. Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, New York. He was assigned to SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team One, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Army Maj. Stephen C. Reich, 34, of Washington Depot, Connecticut. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Hunter Army Air Field, Georgia.
