Any problems with jam ups? Mine seem to jam at the range after they get hot.

Good lord, how many rounds do you shoot at a time?

I shoot my friend's Benelli Nova Pump. He owns a small farm upstate, when I visit we just take it out in the woods and fire away at a backstop with a paper target.
One time it took down a small tree.

We put a fair number of rounds through it, and we shoot in either steady aimed fire or rapid fire sets. I'd say we each put about 100 shells into the target, and we haven't had any problems yet.

Edit: Correction, just checked with my buddy, he's got a Nova Pump, not M1...the M1's the semi-auto.

Who here has knowledge of the choke? One of my guns came with a choke tool but I never used one and I am not comfortable just using written instructions. Let me get this right, full choke is more like a rifled barrell very tight scatter and a modified choke has more scatter? All you pro's feel free to answer.

I heard word of mouth (USMC vet) that the military really didn't consider the shotgun and effective combat weapon. Recently I read that the Army reconsidered that philosophy and adopted a Combat shotgun that is seeing a lot of action in Iraq. Any comments?

Probably an issue of range/precision.

But in Iraq, apparently there's a lot more CQB going on, where shotguns are great. Hell, they've got a reputation as home defense guns for a reason.

I've even heard from USMC vets back from Iraq that they've even had occasional use for MCMAP training.

Are those T shaped choke tools difficult to use?

Default New to shot guns.

I have never actually had a lot of hands on expierence with the shotgun. What kind of loads do you use in it for CQB. And how effective are they?

It is immediately incapacitating, no ifs, ands, or buts. That, however, assumes the guy isn't wearing a vest. A ballistic vest would make that shot useless unless it hit high in the face. So the next three rounds are 00 (pronounced "double ought") buckshot. That's roughly 9 pellets of .36 caliber balls that hit all at once, and are good out to roughly 25 meters. The rest of the tube is slugs.

Cool. I had always heard similar things from other people on that subject. I hope to one day own a nice shotgun. It seems to be a pretty good weapon for up close. Thanks for the info Mr. B.

I have heard of Flechett (sp) rounds too. Similar to finishing nails without the head. Anybody else know of these? I hear it creates a pretty nast wound.

What's the scoop on Mossberg; I see the poll results indicate a heavy favorite over the other leading brands?

I believe that the Mossberg 590 (not positive on that.) Was made so that all the parts are interchangable with each one of that model and they have to fire 5000 rounds in a row without being cleaned and they cannot jam during this time. That was the standards they were built on as it was explained to me. If that is the case and info points that it is then it's a shotgun made like they used too.
