http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061203/.../wounds_of_war
The first half of the article talks about how women experience PTSD just like men have during times of war. I tried to step into the shoes of the people in this article... The average marine or soldier who comes back and looks at us thinks we're lazy, unnapreciative and disconnected with those who serve in our armed forces; that's got to be frustrating as **** considering how busy they've been, what they've accomplished in a short amount of time and the risks taken. Civillian employers who've never served probably shrug their shoulders with indifference when they hear about the required discipline of their unit, having to come face to face with the enemy during a fire fight, seeing others get wounded all while sleeping on hard ground. I'd also imagine that some folks would look at some of our more gung ho veterans attitudes' as annoying, especially if they did not support the war in the first place. Life probably seems really slow when you get back into a civillian life. The lack of teamwork in civillian organizations would be a source of frustration. We're so lucky to live in such a stable, safe and humane society in this country. Just across the border, in Mexico, police officers are frequently murdered and found decapited. Citizens there are at the mercy of whichever group takes charge. Some of our national stability comes from the folks who volunteer for the national guard, not to mention a large and organized military. Last edited by Tom Yum; 12-05-2006 at 05:15 PM. |

I spoke with a buddy of mine whose sharp as a whip and just a good all round guy. We talked about the war, military service and what not. One of his biggest qualms against the military was that the social elite (i.e. wealthy) aren't elisting/commissioning. I asked him to explain. He said that the elite, Republicans and Democrats both, aren't sending their kids into the military. I was rather suprised because this guy is big on defense, hunting and what not. He said that the elite, as a whole believe that the war isn't good for this country based on fiscal reasons. My response was that the war sets the battlestage abroad, rather than here and that many of those who planned the war have poured over the Muslim extremists texts and figured out that this is one way to draw out the enemy that would otherwise attack us at home (9-11) or abroad (USS cole). I guess we each have our own opinions. I still have immense respect for our armed forces.
