Thumbs up Private vs. Group MT sessions

Had a private MT session yesterday after a long time of neglect and it feels great!, just wondered what the opinions were about private (1 on 1) sessions vs. group.

I learnt and remembered a lot yesterday and really got into it, in fact, I reckon you can make very fast progress with private lessons, much faster and more thorough than when you have to wait for the instructor to 'get round' to you (in a largish group). Yes it costs more, but imho well worth it..

Now, there are some folks who advocate large group sessions are best because you can get the various individual styles of sparring to learn against etc. but I say you can get this perfectly well in a private session especially when your Kru can get someone else from the club to spar with from time to time.........

Default private and group lessons.

Private lessons are the fastest way to learn a martial art, some of the experts say you can learn up to seven times faster, you can and will, BUT there has never been a top fighter from a private lesson only system, the advantage to class training is in a private lesson you as a student have no one to push /compare with, in a class you can push yourself to hit harder, faster, then the person next to you, and the more in the class, the more motivation to work hard, if you look at pro boxers, even though they have a trainer and what amounts to a private lesson every time they train, they still train in a communal system with someone hitting the bag next to them while they hit the bag. some of the best fighters in boxing came out of Emmanuel Stuarts Kronk gym in Detroit, some of the best fighters still come out of training clubs/camps. if you truly want to be good combine both group and private training.

jukado, good point & I agree with your comments but in my case, I have no intention of becoming a fighter, I enjoy the training very much and dont care how I do compared to others in the club/class as it makes no difference at all.

For me, MT is about the full contact aspect as well as good realistic self defense and of course, the conditioning.

I like small group training 4 or 5 in class at a time it gives everyone a chance for some one on one time and get the benifits of training with others. Best of both worlds you might say.
