![]() | For the past 4 yrs I've been using 16 oz gloves for my personal training. (this includes light sparring and drills) I'm 5' 7" (170 cm) and 130 lbs.(60 kg) I'm thinking of switching my current gloves to lighter ones. Any particular size you guys recommend? Which one is ideal for my weight division, 10 oz or 12 oz? Your help'd be greatly appreciated.

If you really think you'll have a problem adjusting/being comfortable with a lighter size than purchase some 12 oz. to spar around with(or 10 oz.). Since you're using a heavier/larger size glove you're improving your hand speed; simple common sense if you're doing the same work out with something heavier/larger than you're getting a better work out. When you use the lighter/smaller gloves you will see how "light" they are compared to the 16 oz. gloves you are currently using. I know where I live in the SEattle area we usually fight with 12 oz. gloves but in Canada it's 10 or 8 oz. gloves depending on what organization, etc. |

![]() | Silapathai, thanx for your reply. I was asking the question because I got little confused: where I used to train we always used 16 oz gloves. I'm in South Korea temporariely and just joined another MT group. There, they don't use 16 oz gloves... only bag gloves and 12 oz. Here's another question for you guys: if I wish to use both 12 oz and 16 oz, which one should I use for light sparring and which for pad works? Or, should I mix them evenly? (like 12 oz for the 1st round, 16 oz for the 2nd round, 12 for the 3rd, 16 for the 4th, etc.) Will be expecting your response.
