when i go to my muy thai/boxing classes, the more i get hurt the better i like it. i like to see the bruises on my legs the next day. when i get hit in the face, it hurts alot, but i want more. in judo when i would get slammed i didnt like it, but after it happened i wanted more. i like getting hit. i like getting hurt. i like bleeding. at the moment it happens it sux, but afterwards i wish it happened more. i dont mind getting fucked up. for a moment i was afriad of getting hurt. now i desire it. mabye it has to do with the fact that i have nothing else going for me. mabye the pain fills the empty void inside me?? i go to my muay thai classes and get pounded and i always want more. the bruise is never big enough, or there is never enough of them. when i get hit in the nose and bleed, it never bleeds enough, and it never hurts enough. the bruises and scrapes are always a physical reminder to me of how much i want to train. sometimes i hate the fact taht some people dont even realise what i go through when i train,and how much it means to me and they dismiss it as just some stupid shit i do. i hate it when ive told people that muay thai is waht i do, yet they always refer to it as karate. i always tell my partner to not hold back.sometimes i want my partner to obliterate me.i always tell my partner to not take it easy on me. to not hold back. i dont know were this comes from but ive been thinking about it alot. is anyone else like this?or am i just crazy?

It’s called masochistism.
Actually if I come home from a training session without a fat lip or without bruises on my legs or other places I am disappointed too. I feel like I didn’t get much of a workout.

I understand what you mean about the karate thing. I trained in a style of karate that is an off-shoot of Isshin-Ryu. Our school free-sparred, grappling the whole deal. In formal classes, we sparred at maybe 75%. After formal class there were about six of us that would stay and beat the living mortal hell out of each other, just swinging for the fences. I would come home with my ribs hurting like hell, lips bleeding, hands swollen, and shins/thighs bruised all up. When someone heard the word Karate I could see the only thing going through there mind was Daniel-Son and the Karate kid. I'm sitting there like dude, I'm freakin bleeding for this, not waxing on or waxing off anything(OK, maybe a few times when I was a kid). Its hard to defend the few legitimate schools of karate that are out there, so I can imagine how pissed you would get if your style isn't even associated with karate and you get that crap.

Your ability to work hard probably pours into other areas of your life; likewise with your ability to take a punch and deliver one. I work for a guy who has been heavily involved in karate for sometime. The man knows how to build teams, communicate effectively and is very comfortable & genuine with people - perhaps its his karate training, his personality or both. Getting hit is an instinctive fear, like public speaking. The more you mix it up and take risks by facing your fears, the faster that fear dissolves. It likely boils down to personality type; some people live their whole lives driven by fears, whereas others like yourself develop courage. Wear your protective gear & good luck.

Why are you bothered that people call your muay thai training karate? Because you think that's not tough enough? Ever noticed how the really tough people don't need to go around telling people how hard they are and how often they train and how many bruises they've got? They know. And that's all they need to know. One other thing, you mentioned that getting smashed to pieces fills the empty void inside of you (very deep btw!) - perhaps you should try to fill your void by training hard on your technique/skill/fitness and concentrating on becoming a good fighter instead of a punch bag? |
