Default Mushin Fight Corps goes 3 for 3

NO! This is not directly about Muay Thai, but last week I announced an Ajarn Chai seminar that was being hosted by Brian Yamasaki (who is a forum member http://www.mushinselfdefense.com/Index.asp ) and Khru Wil Bernales. The seminar itself seems to have gone quite well, at least partially in part to Mike Stidham, owner of the Ultimate Combat Training Center and promoter of The Ultimate Combat Experience (a weekly MMA show that airs Sunday Nights . . . in Utah http://www.ucombat.com ) who welcomed the seminar to his school (17,000 sqft).

The UCE shows have MMA and kickboxing matches. They are typically held on a Saturday night in a local club. Last weeks show (which will hit the airways in a couple of weeks) was actually one of the better cards I had seen in an MMA show in Utah. And Mike Stidham actually stopped the show at one point to recognize Ajarn Chai.

And while I know that the members of the Mushin team (Brian Yamasaki's school) wanted the KOs for Ajarn Chai, which they did not get, they still went 3 for 3 on the night and served their school very well. Each bout ended up going to the ground after they (the non-Mushin guys) tasted the MT slap-down served up by Brian's team. (OK, maybe Justin didn't use any MT, but he still knocked a Vampiro wannabe on his keister)

Below is a quick quote written by Brian concerning the fights (from a response to the seminar announcement that I did last week on this forum), and my recap of the Mushin team's efforts.

Brandon Kiser will be fighting his third consecutive NHB fight this weekend as he moves ever closer to the Utah State Finals at the Ultimate Combat Experience. Trevor Osborn (Current Ultimate Combat Experience Champ... Round X) will be throwing down with Brandon Fitzgerald (Former Ultimate Combat Experience Champ... Round 9) to determine who gets the first spot for the finals at the E-Center (possibly to face Brandon Kiser).
With Ajarn Chai looking on the guys at the Mushin team whooped some 3rd degree a$$.

Justin Harker, a brand new student, choked his opponent (James Hurd) out via an RNC applied from the side-ish. The two fighters came out swinging and while Justin was hoping to use his striking to setup a double-leg, his overhand right connected on his opponent's chin and the guy dropped like Enron stock. Justin went down, looking for a control position, but his opponent was slithering out of his grasp when Justin locked on the RNC (no hooks, but one hell of a grip). I thought his opponent was going to either pass out or suffer the first MMA decapitation . . . the guy wouldn't tap, for a while that is. He eventually tapped and Justin recorded his first MMA win. It wasn't too pretty but it worked!

Trevor "Little Bang" Osborne won a close split decision after getting every takedown, missing on a couple of armbars, and working from the top for the majority of the fight. His opponent had a couple of near guillotines on Trevor but Trevor escaped each choke attempt with some patience and what appeared to be a non-existent need for blood in his brain. This was an awesome fight. Trevor is the current UCE champ and his opponent was the previous UCE champ.

Brandon "The Assassin" Kiser wanted the KO so bad you could see it in his eyes. However, his opponent knew that standing with Brandon was flat-out moronic, right after catching the first kick Brandon threw at him, so he attempted a takedown. Brandon pulled guard, threw a couple of hard shots at his opponent's head, and then exploded with an absolutely beautiful sweep that Placed Brandon directly in mount where he began to pound away with some flat-out scary accurate strikes. His opponent was game and did not tap, but he also couldn't mount any offense and the referee was forced to step in and stop the bout after 20 or so un-answered power shots.

Trevor was cut over his right eye and will be forced to go through a short medical suspension. We do not know at this time if he will be able to fight in the finals. Brandon, who is one of the Mushin Fight Corps instructors and works with Brian to train the entire team, was going to defer to Trevor in the finals (since Trevor is his student) but he may not have to after all. If Trevor is not cleared to fight before the finals then Brandon will step in. If Trevor is cleared and fights in the finals then Brandon might have a "superfight" of sorts at the show anyway.

The finals will be held in Salt Lake City's E-Center, which was the location for all of the Hockey events in the 2002 Winter Olympics.

I know they wanted the KO's for Ajarn Chai, but going 3 for 3 is one hell of an accomplishment. Congrats.

Brian will become famous soon enough
Default A Follow Up

Thanks alot Grand Master G for that kindly biased play by play. Thanks for comming out and supporting the team. Trevor's cut (from Fitz's elbow) resulted in 5 stitches above his right eye. He will be getting the stitches out this Friday and there is a good chance that he'll be cleared for his fight against another former UCE State Champ, Robert Aviles in the finals at the E-Center. But it is still possible that the doctors will not sanction his fight.

In other developments, Brandon has agreed to an exhibition fight (his fourth fight in 4 weeks) against Brandon Fitzgerald, UCE Round 9 State Champ and the first guy to take Trevor "Little Bang" Osborn past the first round. This is going to be a tough fight for both parties.

But we've made some adjustments in our approach since Fitzgerald vs. Osborn last week and we're confident that the tactics will prove effective. One thing is for sure, if "Fitz" tries that sissy foot stomping crap again, we've got a couple of un-pleasant surprises waiting for him. We don't like fighting gutter wars but if they want to start one... we'll be the ones to finish it.

I wish I could be there this weekend.

Please tell him that I look forward to hearing about the fight. I'd say "good luck" but he's going to clean the guy's clock.
