If you are totally new to muay Thai, you should apply liniment before your workout to your thighs, your lower stomach area, the insides of your knees and lower thigh/knee area, and any sore area. Shoulders and upper arms if you are planning lots of boxing. If you are using a cream liniment, you should rub it in deep, especially into your lower stomach, pushing down toward the groin. The backs of the legs and butt muscles can be treated if you are worried about your hamstrings. Current theory is a 20-minute ice-bath immediately after severe muscle exertion will help recovery. It has been known for decades that a dry sauna leaches lactic acid from muscles. Liniment use after class or workout probably depends on where you are going and who you might wish not to offend (or who you might wish to have their eyes burned out). Sorry about any grammatical errors
About the smell, nam muay smells like eucaplytus, and a bottle has lasted me for almost 8 years now. |

Thanks, that was a great post! ![]() No, not totally new to Muay Thai, but new to Liniment. I just ordered some from Fairtex, and before this I've only been using things you see on T.V. like IcyHot. I've been hearing about the liniment and how great it is for years, but have only purchased a bottle now. Does anyone happen to know what the Fairtex one smells like, and how strong it is compared to other products like IcyHot?Thanks! |

What's the best way to apply the liquid type liniment, like the one sold by Fairtex?
EDIT: Okay I just applied some with a napkin, and then massaged it into my sore shins and knees. It seems to be about the same heat as say, BenGay. But it does seem to make it's way to the sore areas and treat them pretty well. It starts to lose it's heat after about 20 minutes I think. Does this sound right to you guys? Does the liniment still work even though it's lost most of it's heat? I am curious because I think it will wear away pretty fast when training. If there's anything I should know about how to apply it properly, or prepare it, shake it or whatever, please let me know. Thanks! ![]() Last edited by xnfx; 09-27-2004 at 11:28 PM.
