Hi, I was wondering if anybody could direct me to a book or a website, or anything, really, that goes into more detail about Muay Boran and Muay Kard Cheurk (sp? bareknuckle thai boxing like Lethwei from Burma). I'm interested in how the movements might change when dealing with bare fists, and how some of the other movements that are in the Thai Boxing arsenal aren't used too much now, i.e. those beatuiful vaulting attacks as seen in some of the photos on muaythai.com .
I really, REALLY want to incorporate that stuff into my next fight, Kickboxing, Muay, or NHB, because it just LOOKS so GOOD, only problem is, I don't know how to train it! dur. |

Keep your eyes and ears open for a newsletter and upcoming book by the name of "The Vanishing Flame" by Vincent Giordanno (who posts as "Black Diamond Cobra" or "Pahuyuth1" on the internet)
That will be your greatest, most indepth source of information. |

I met Vincent in Thailand after studying with various teachers there as I went to study krabi krabong and bare knuckle muay. It depends on the teacher as some dont care about functionality only surviving the system and maintain it and teach like an old static art or just as an exercise as in alot of videos and vcds we see. Vincents work in the thai martial arts is unparalleled and voluminous. His work really is specialized in functionality and combatics, so although he researchs it like a scholar. He personally specializes in this one area all the wayto and including military muay systems as well as from other countries including burma, cambodia, phillipines, etc. He is best to answer your questions in detail but he staggered me especially with the krabi krabong material. But in the end it all made sense. Alot of older masters who really taught it with a functional eye are slowly dying away(or have died away) and it seems replaced by younger masters who know the material but dont seem to know the keys of how to make it work in real time(this is my view from studying with some of them). I sought personally to learn them toward usage and function and its there--it just needs to be sought out. Its great because Vincent inherited alot of old texts from the masters which he wil use in his books--one on bare knuckle and the other on weapons. To join the email newsletter, you have to send him an email at blackdiamondcobra@yahoo.com. I beleive the email newsletter will come back up soon. Hope this helps.
