Default Blocking tips

Any advice for blocking and holding your guard stance in kickboxing.

What effective stances can you use and what can I do to train myself to not drop my guard.

Started KB recenty and we do alot of sparring, in'm getting caught out alot.

Ribs and head mainly!

Cheers
