Default Muay Thai

Im currently interested in learning Muay Thai; for its sheer effectiveness as a martial art style. e.e But as it seems...im out of luck as I live in Louisiana...and I don't think there are any schools within this region...so it seems my only choices of learning this style would be to self teach....any helpful books out there..?

I've met two guys that train from Louisiana, both of high caliber.

One of the guys had a back ground in JKD and bagua/xingyi/chinna and was really fast on his feet and good at doing upperbody takedowns and sweeps. He trained out of New Orleans.

The other a cruiserweight fella who was a pretty good kickboxer and has fought in the Beaurivage Casiso. I got a good chance to spar with him for 4 rounds and he has a whopping right hand and a sharp uppercut (my chin wasn't too happy)

There's bound to be good instruction there, keep lookin'.

Baton Rouge isn't that small a town - I'd just open up your yellow pages and visit some places.

Good luck.

Hello everyone!! Don't think this needs a new thread as its on the same subject, but i also am very excited to start Muay Thai but the only problem I have is that I am Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Granted its the second largest city in Iowa that just doesnt mean awhole lot . I have found one guy who I know of who grew up in Thailand, but is unwilling to teach Muay Thai, he instructs TKD. So i was wondering, although I know its nowhere near having a real intructor teaching me, could anyone suggest a tape/dvd that would show me some basic of bag work and intro footwork/conditioning. Ive got my heart set on Muay Thai, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know Dean Lessei has a gym in Dubuque Iowa.....I'm not really sure how far that is from you.
Anyway, Dean knows his stuff....I would recommend him.

Default Muay Thai in Louisiana

Try the Progressive Martial Arts Training Center in Lafayette. Small school but quality instruction. PMATC’s Muay Thai is affiliated with the Thai Boxing Association and we are the Louisiana State Director for the Wing Chun Association of the USA and Pekiti-Tirsia International. Give us a visit and experience what we do.
