Anyone see this? They have a reality show about the UFC on Spike. It's an interesting watch, as they do full contact UFC rules fights. I personally am surprised by what appears to be lack of striking skill. One would think that a fighter would want to invest in both good striking and group techniques, any thoughts??
I do have respect for the courage, it just seems that some of these guys are killing themselves for no reason.

That show is hurting. 15 seconds in the ring and they are already tired. I've only seen 1 decent hit on it aswell. It was some ugly red haired guy and someone else.. ugly red headed guys head was split open by the other guys elbow. It was hot. But yeah... I think it's stupid. I know even when I'm dead tired, I dont have that pussy attitude towards doing shit. Blah blah

Mmm, in the fight I mentioned in my last post. The red hair guy kept stomping the other guys foot. I was getting pissed off watching it ahaha. it's so lame... they are in a clinch.. and all u see is the guy trying to step on the other guys foot. Err I was pissed, but luckily that fast elbow came in and stopped the match! ahha. Mm soo are you gusy gonna watch the Couture vs. Liddel match?

the red headed guy is Chris Leben, and i've seen him fight b4 this show. He was 15-1 or soemtign,
Well, to be nice i wasn't overly impressed with his striking skills. And every striker i've seen uses the stupid off blanced kick to the thigh. Koscheck and Leben do it a lot. They use their back leg and try to kick the other guy's thigh but whenever they miss they spin aorund. This is the perfect time to strike or takedown. Im sure if Chuck or Couture were given an opportunity, they would end the fight after one of those dumb kicks. KO! |

Well, I was taught when I miss a kick, to go into (Tah-koom) position and spin back to my stance. But I guess it would be different for MMA and MT, since they could like, tackle you from behind and twist your leg.

I would agree, Chris does not have that impressive of striking skills, with his record, I expected more. But what do you mean by "off balanced kick"? They are throwing a back leg roundkick which when it connects, it can do some damaged. Have you ever watched a K-1?? I know it is differrent rules, but the kick is not "dumb" at all. When it is thrown hard, as it should be, and it misses, the fighter should spin around and come to a "cover" posture...it is too hard to go fast..miss...and pull your leg right back to position. |

it looks like a sick excuse for a roundhouse kick. maybe its the way these particular guys throw.
Still whenever they miss they spin in slow motion. IF they were to use all their power they would spin faster. |

Yea, I would agree there...not much effort in their kicks. The only one I am impressed with so far is Diego, but then he has fought 3 times so we have seen more of him than the others.
Did you guys catch the speccial PPV on Randy Couture?? Pretty good stuff. My money is on him to beat Chuck again...any thoughts?? |

I'm going to go through mma withdrawal after it's of the air.Bobby southworth got screwed on his decision,I don't like him or josh that much but they are good fighters, deagio is the best so far I think but hasn't really been tested, forest is funny and Chris liben basically was the only guy with personality on that show, though he's an a-hole when he drinks.I can't wait to see mike swick fight, I think nate corey is a very talented fighter with alot of class and maturity. Randy couture is truly what a champion should be, I still like chuck liddel though. I don't trust dana white he seems like a typical reptile promoter to me. Was he ever a fighter, does any body know? Too bad bas ruten isn't one of the trainers on the show, he's a funny guy. People should chill on the dissing people's striking skills though, don't try to apply mauy thai, kickboxing, or boxing punching or kicking standards to mma. In mma you don't even throw your punches the same way you would in the other sports, your feet are paralell with each other so you don't give up your wrestling base and it's mostly head hunting with little bobing and weaving, I still would slip though, many of the guys that came over from striking still use a modified striking stance though. Whatever works for you I guess.

He barely got out and Swick basically dominated the the round until Stephan got Swick in his guard and applied an armbar with only 10 secs left. Swick tapped with 2 sec. left in the round. Tough loss, coulda went either way i guess. |

Chris Leben has a 10-1 record: 3 Wins by Submission 2 Wins by Decision (1 by Unanimous) 5 Wins by KO or TKO Diego Sanchez has an 11-0 (says Sherdog, but it's really 14-0) record: 7 Wins by Submission 3 Wins by KO or TKO 1 Win By Decision Before the show even aired Diego was already the King of the Cage Welterweight Champion. |
