i am currently looking forward to joining a muay thai gym. i live in the detroit area and am curious to know which gyms are available and worth while. I am almost set on joining cooper kickboxing because i think it is the closest.
i am also curious to know what kind of shape i should be in when first starting out. i am not in the best shape right now. what can i do to prepare myself for training? i have never trained for any martial arts whatsoever. any advice would be appreciated. |

i currently workout 5 days a week which consists of 24 minutes on a bike 1-2 mile run and some heavy bag hitting (25-50 jabs, crosses, hooks, knees, kicks, teeps, elbows, and some shadow boxing if i'm not dead). that gives me a pretty good workout and i've been trying to add some weight training to build up some muscle cause i'm pretty weak there too.

Please consider heading up to Walled Lake to check out Matee Jedeepitak...you have the unique opportunity to train with a 4-time WORLD CHAMPION from Bangkok.

I have been going to Coopers since June of last year and absolutely love it. Al and all of the other instructor really care about the development of their students as well as the safety and health of those who train their. The fighters in our gym are top notch as well, with one of them (Steve Radinski) having recently picked up a N. American champ belt in New York.
Be advised though, caring about your health does not mean babying you. We are expected to WORK. If you have any specific questions or are curious about any other gyms in MI (I have visited a few) feel free to private message me. |
