Default erm... leg breaking?

I've heard stories and clips of MT guys going at it and sometimes breaking each other's legs... I don't consider it a hobby to have my legs turned into wobbly mush.

Is this leg breaking thing in MT rare or common?

there is a poster on the forum who had his leg broken very badly, his name is retired. search for his thread and you can see the x-rays and the pictures.

It is rare but can happen. I've seen broken stuff in many arts though. Saw a cheek get shattered in 17 pieces by a tkd round kick once too.

In order for a shin to break in that fashion...I'm pretty damn sure there has to be some other problem that was there a priori...i.e. some sort of low bone density or a form of osteoporosis or some shit.
Damn...that would suck, though.

retired hit the guys hip bone at a downward angle with his shin.

Problem with MT kicks is that rebound energy will cause the weakest thing to break.

Makes you re-think point sparring I am sure this guy did not intend for this to happen, but that is full contac/combat sports. No advice except to re-consider MT competition.?!?!

full force blows from a naked shin can do strange things, Ben Garcia received a shattered elbow from a kick that landed just right, or wrong, not that these injures are common by any means among fighters with enough quality training. Dennis Alexio claims that his fracture from Stan Longinidis was from stepping back on an unpadded, uneven ring surface but the medical experts questioned on the matter said it was impossible to get a spiral fracture from that alone. bottom line is the human body can do some incredible things but it's still just flesh and bone.
