We normally use 12oz gloves, nobody has thicker than that. Some sparr with 10oz gloves.

yeah wearing headgear will alow you to take harder shots and spar a little harder. in addition to protecting your head, it also plays an important role of protecting your eyes. taking gloved punches to your eyes repeatedly can be real bad sometimes, and can leave your vision permanently damaged, but the headgear at least provides some protection.

also make sure to wear your mouthpiece and cup. i think wearing a mouthpiece is more important than wearing the headgear, but together they give the most safety.

I wouldn't dream of sparring without my mouth piece. In fact, I don't do anything without it. Not even when I'm making out with my girl. Hmm maybe that's why she wants to leave me.

personally i think the full frontal cover head gaurds take the pressure out of sparring too much. the standard boxing head guard is fine though.

If your a pro fighter(ie earning a living from fighting) then you should always wear a headguard imho, this is to stop headbuts causing cuts more that to prevent head trauma.

I dont belive in "gym wars" boxers sometimes get more damage done in the gym than in the ring, where is the sense in that?.
