Default Certified by the MTIA

Greetings,

Just curious, has anyone have experience with the MTIA (Muay Thai International Association)--becoming certified or have been trained by someone who was certified by the MTIA?

Reason being- there's a MT school here that I'm looking into whose instructor (sorry, Kru) is certified by the MTIA- what's the legit scale on this? (pardon my ignorance)

Thanks in advance.

That's Master Toddy's organization. Toddy is a top instructor and promoter.

In the New York area, the guys from Five Points Fitness are affiliated with Toddy, and their school, training, and fighters are all top notch! Five Points is considered one of the top MT gyms in NYC. I've also met Master Green (from Vegas) and seen some of his fighters. They are also affiliated under Toddy and are top-notch.

The instructor you're curious about... what's his/her name?

My Instructor, Kru Dave Feser, is certified under Master Toddy. I've only just started training under him, but so far his teaching has been great!

Red Prayat....

I don't know exactly what it is, but in general many MuayThai organizations outside of Thailand use armbands to denote rank instead of colored belts, keeping with the MuayThai tradition that the only belt you ever earn is in the ring. The armbands are called Kruang Ruang, Prachiat, Paprachiat, Prayat.... Lots of subtle spelling and pronunciation differences, but it pretty much amounts to the same thing. Its a red armband to denote a specific rank of skill within their organization.

The instructor's name is Kru David Martucci.

http://www.thaisportusa.com/index.html

His school is fairly new, but as far as MT camps in Long Island, NY, that's like finding gold (there's only one other academy). He also has a BJJ instructor as well.

I know, there are a bunch of great MT schools in NYC, but that's an hour-and a-half train ride for me (one way) ...

Thanks again guys for all your help!

That's awesome! My in-laws live in Westbury, and I've really been wanting to get my nephew to start training MuayThai. That's what, about 10 minutes away?

You got it-- depending on how far they are from the Northern St. Pkwy.

Since I already took an intro, I know (for adult MT group classes) it's around $145/mo.-- and that's unlimited. If he wants to do BJJ as well, I think they have a package for $176. I didn't ask what the MMA went for, but they have that too.

Kru David may want to give him an hour intro class first, which is $20.

Good luck!

Funny that people were asking about Toddy's insructors. Just earlier today I was looking on his site about instructor training and was curious myself. I just thought that was a cool coincidence, carry on...
