Hi all, I'm new here. You can see my introduction here.
I've been informally training with some friends at school and was wondering if y'all had some advice as to what kinds of drills we can do with our limited amount of equipment. Seeing as how we're all poor college students, it's difficult to acquire more. There are about 4 of us. Here's what I got: - 2 thai pads - 2 focus mits - bag gloves for all - jump ropes for all There are also two heavy bags in the room we use at school, but I am hesitant to use them, seeing as how we have to share them with whoever happens to wander in. So far I've been having half work on the mits, half on the pads and then switch, but I'm very interested in drills that use 1 mit, 1 pad. I'm also expecting more people to join up. Suggestions? |

I suggest breaking up into groups, one group works boxing on the mitts, while the other one works legs and knees on the thai pads.
Clinche work will open up the pads also, as they aren't required to practice the prummb. (just do curve knees lightly, no straight knees.) 2 heavy bags is pretty good for a college gym...who knows, work on those and maybe you might peak somebody's interest who can suga daddy your group. (always good to have somebody with money interested enough to want to pitch on equipment.) |

Hmmm... 4 of you.
Doesn't it take 2 to work the pads and mitts? One to hold one to strike? So while one group is practising on the mitts the other practises on Pads. Then after your minute break, you guys switch from pads to Mitts. Sounds to me like you got all the basics needed. Practise some basic combos on the pads. For maybe 3 mins each. something like: Punch combo(Jab, Straight, hook) Right RHouse>Left RHouse [repeat for 3 mins] / Punch combo(Straight, Upper cut) Right Rhouse>Left Knee [repeat for 3 mins] (The guy holding the pads should watch the striker, if he gets sloppy with his guard then give him a knock with the pads to wake him up) You get the idea, drill it in. I dunno, but you could save the heavy bags for when there are 3 people or 1 person(for whatever reason someone couldn't make it). You can pretty much do the same stuff. |
