Are there any good place to get Muay Thai gear in Vancouver, BC? I could only find Bushido in Surrey, BC that has a great selection of Twins-branded gear. Are there other places (other than online)?

Why are you not interested in online stores?

Try Mikado - 701 E. Hastings (a really nice neighbourhood
). http://www.mikadomartialarts.com/index3.html They have a little be more of a selection of gear than what is shown on their website, but I didn't see any Twins/Fairtex/Thaismai brand of anything. But if price is an issue you can find a lot of cheap stuff there. My MT coach sells gear he imports from Thailand (a lot of Thaismai stuff) http://www.universalmma.com/pages/our_location.html 1256 Granville (near Davie).

I talked to Dave (BTW, is it polite to address your instructor by the first name? I took Chinese martial arts before and the appropriate way to address your instructor is to call him "sifu [last name]") and he kinda mentioned he had some gear, but he didn't go into details and told me that I could get it anywhere, like Granville Sports Corner. I went to that store and they only have Everlast gear. What are the prices will I be looking at? I need gloves, wraps, shorts and shin pads (and I guess the school's t-shirt too). If you see a newbie during training next week who has no idea what's going on... you know who it is. LOL

Kru Dave is a pretty-laid back kind of guy. I usually just call him Dave.
The gym's atomosphere is pretty informal - more like a boxing gym than a traditional Kwoon/Dojo.I forget the prices actually - I bought some gear from him back around January. I think the t-shirt was $20? Shin pads might have been $30 but don't quote me on that. You can probably find some cheap ones at Mikado. I had my own gloves and hand-wraps. See you Tuesday!

Bob, are you talking about the corner of Robson and Granville? I'll have to take a walk around there and see what I can find - I don't know about a MA supply shop around there.
As for the training, I wish I had started when I was 15. I met boxers much younger than that over in Thailand, but I don't know what Kru Dave's policy is. Give him a call (the number is on the link above) and find out!

They're not a MA shop -- they're a sports shop with hockey sweaters, football jerseys, etc. They have Everlast boxing gear, but they don't have MT gear. I guess boxing and MT gear are similar, but it's sort of like wearing a Judo uniform in TKD, so I rather spend time and search for MT gear.

A good example of a fighter who had previous MA training prior to MT or BJJ is Cung Le. He started with TKD and wrestling, then he moved on to San Shou and now to MT and BJJ. It was probably much easier for him to pick up San Shou, MT and BJJ since he already had experience in TKD and wrestling. |

Well I don't know if I have the time for it, hopefully I do. I haven't phone universal yet hehe quite busy: P. And I use to learn Muay Thai at broadway. www.blackbeltstudio.com. I couldn't keep going cause I had to study for exams..etc. I want a new start to Muay Thai, and universal looks like the perfect place. And for the TKD and Judo, I don't think I'll learn it because I really like Muay thai and Bjj (especially Muay thai).
