Default Oregon Camp 2006

Hello Everyone,
Just got back from Oregon yesterday am at 5:00am. Had a great time. There were many really great people there this year. I will post some pics soon both on this forum as well as on my web page www.gokickit.com. Still a little tired and have to get to the school now. Just thought I would post something to get a discussion about this years camp started. I will try to post pics later today.

Hi,

I got back to New Brunswick at 11 AM Atlantic time on Wednesday. That's 7 am Pacific I guess. about 12 hours of travel and airport waiting I think. As I noted in the other camp thread I wai'd the TSA guy at the metal detector in Portland when he told me I was good to go, he looked at me kind of funny but I didn't get any extra searching

I had a blast at camp. I managed to lose another 5 pounds even though I ate a lot of good food. Must be all that crazy dancing.

Thanks to everyone that I worked with, I met a lot of great folks. Thanks to Phil for sharing his car and getting me to camp and out to somewhere I could call my wife to let her know a bear hadn't eaten me.

Default Thanks to all

especially Kirk. So many people used your healing skills this year. It is now 5:30 on Thursday afternoon. I just got back from Bruce Raymer's. We took bags to Eugene, then came back to the storage shed and moved everything from the trailer into the shed. My camp is pretty much officially over, but one last order from Ajarn Chai before he got on the plane. Larry Pope, he wants to cut your hair next year at the camp. If some computer-literate contributor would start a poll, let's just find out how many people would like to see that happen... I personally had a great, fun camp this year, bureaucratic issues aside. Right now, I am very tired, but I will post more soon. Thanks again to all 170 who were there, special thanks from me to Bob & Casper, Bryan & Bradley, all the girls (lol) and Gunnar, Vivienne, Alex, Christian, Augie & Lorain's sons, Nina and Gabby, Sarah and her friend for working the water table again, all the kids for the good times. My sister Tim and all the cooks, I listened to your advice, honestly. Phil Cabreros, thanks for your tolerance. All who came, Tuesday night there were bears (or a bear, I was too scared to get out of my tent) out by the garbage and then later that night over by Master Chai's motor home. We had dinner last night with Professor Trigg, he was wearing the coolest shirt I have ever seen, a Muhammad Ali shirt. I asked him how my form looked after training 1 week a year with him for 16 years. He laughed and said "You're coming along." Time for Steve go sleep

Great camp this year. Thank you to all who helped make it great. All of the instructors were great. I think i picked up the most new material from Khun Kru Dobler. For those who have never had the chance to train with him, he is a great instructor. I really liked the morning stations this year, and I hope that it will continue in years to come.

Hello again everyone,
Just to let you know I still haven't figured out how to put pics on this forum yet. I have only put a couple of pics from camp on my website so far but will continue to add more. If anyone from camp has pics they would like to share e-mail them to me and I will put them on my website. Also, just wanted to express my sincere appreciation for all who helped make this camp run so smoothly despite all of the bumps in the road. I would also like to thank the many people who have helped through the years to keep this camp going, I know there are many "behind the scenes" things that have tken place in the last 16 years and yet somehow you guys continue to keep it going and it just keeps getting better all of the time. Hope you guys will read this. You know who you are. Thanks to those who have posted here and added links to pics they are much appreciated and meaningful. It sems as the years go by the things that seem mundane or ordinary turn into bits and pieces of history and eventually legend. I hope more who attended camp this year will post and keep this thread going. Take Good Care,
Bryan

Default webpage instead of ftp

My firewall was blocking most ftp access. I have put all the pictures on a webpage. I haven't resized them yet, so if you have a slow connection it will take a little time.

Default Grappling at Oregon Camp

Hi everyone,

This year was an especially fine camp! One of my favorite morning sessions was with Marcos, a gifted jiu jitsu instructor who earned his Black Belt under Rigan Machado. Ajarn Chai assigned one group of instructors to concentrate on grappling techniques. To me, this was manna from the heavens!

Here Marcos is working on his Muay Thai stance with help from Ajarn Chai.

It is a hot sunny day here today. I walked outside for bit of sunshine and a little stretch away from my desk and was pleasantly surprised. I work directly across from the City Market, built in 1876. The plaza around the entrance way is a common place for various entertainment and plain old lounging in the sun chatting. Today was a drum circle.

Members of New Brunswick's Elsipogtog Nation drummed and danced and spoke. The jingle dresses reminded me of the last night at camp, though the dancers today were a couple years older than the wee girls who danced in Oregon. I enjoyed that last night in Oregon, sore and stiff as I was, as much as I wanted to lay down I am glad I stayed to watch.

Today one young lady sung the national anthem in Mi'kmaq, French and English, which is something I hadn't heard before. I got to see a drum circle on both sides of the continent within a week of one another. Life is pretty good.

Default Thanks, Phil

That was pretty good. I was off at the other training area and got back just in time to see them walk off, so now I finally got to see what all the clapping was about. Hope more people will post pix & stories soon.

I second the thanks Phil. I appreciate you taking the time to convert that and hosting it. Some of the best parts of camp were those in between moments when spontaneous learning and playing happened.
