Daniel:
I am checking to see if the person I knew is still in texas that knew some good old style muay and krabi krabong. If the contact info is still good I will post it for you.
Also check out these dvds to give you an excellent foundation to start your training:
http://www.ancientmuay.com

http://www.bareknucklemuay.com

I like the old style myself.

Sorry, I tried the numbers I had for the guy in Texas but they are all dead. He might have moved. If anything comes up I will post it.

Dont get caught up in the names of moves, when you work in the real stuff its about efficiency and putting the stuff to use. Thats what seperates it for me.

isnt it true that muay boran isnt the same as muay thai
and that muay boran is the ancestor of muay thai and is much older

this is by no means a fact, its just what i've heard and i thought i'd ask if its tru or not here

Crimson Khan...

MuayBoran is just the modern day practice of the older Thai bareknuckle arts that predate sport MuayThai. There were lots of different styles of Bareknuckle Fighting in Thailand prior to the 20th century (divided up mostly by region). Muay Chaiya was one practiced in the area around Bangkok if I'm not mistaken.

Nowadays, the older styles are simply referred to as MuayBoran, which is translated to "Antique Boxing" (more or less). Its very hard to find LEGITIMATE MuayBoran training. The links provided by George Stando above are excellent. Colonel Amnat Pooksrisuk is the real deal!

Muay Boran(Muay=Muaythai,Boran=Ancient)
Muay Boran is Ancient Art of Muaythai being practiced and used in Battlefield. When Warriors were not fighting in the Battlefield, they would participate in Competitions,if both contestants were agreed to fight and win by way of surender, blood drawn or kill.Old day of Muaythai, there were not many strict rules, fighters were allowed to use 9 limbs, grappling, throwing to the floor and followed up with strikes while opponent on the ground.
Since 1930 Boxing Rules adopted and made it more humain Sport.Introduced Boxing Ring,Gloves,Guards,Rounds, Weight Catagories etc.
In the past 4 years Muaythai rules are still changing for a welfare of fighters.
Muaythai fighters use more simple techniques in order to win the fight.Ancient Muaythai techniques are not being practiced like before. There are Muaythai Camps still practicing the Ancient Art of Muaythai.Muay Chaiya(Muaythai in Chaiya Province,South of Thailand) is now based in Bangkok and Muay Chaiyuth, there are many teachers are still teaching Muay Boran techniques to students when they see fit and when students asked them.

aaah i see
thanx for that also man

yea, i think in the last muay thai fight i went to the fighter from thailand, called pinpetch (if i remember rite) was the BEST fighter i've ever seen in my entire life
and i've watched buakaw, rammon dekkers etc.
i mean, those r my 2 favourites
and this guy would lose to them BUT
this was by far the best fight i've ever seen
in the final round he was ahead by a fair bit so he started doing some VERY complex interesting moves, i guessed they were muay boran, but wasnt sure the exact definition of muay boran so kept my mouth shut lol

he did some excellent moves!
i wish so bad that i had it on video (i'll be asking the holders of the fight if there is a video available)
coz man
it was incredible, and i've seen good thai fighting before but DAM
hahahaha, it was a few weeks ago now but i still cant get it out of my mind hahaha

I understand that apart from the 2 listed above, there is a 3rd DVD released in Thailand through their Ministry of Education. The Colonel promised to send me a copy, but he said its going to take some time before he is able.

I'll try to find out from him how other people can get copies of it. I think he has trouble getting copies of it for himself.

There are several more dvds. One produced in europe, one produced in Thailand as Khun Kao mentioned and a documentary in thai that the colonel worked on. Vincent Giordano has them. I think alot of people were emailing in for them so I think he is going to make those available through the vanishing flame email newsletter for the members who bought the dvds. I was asking myself and he just sent me an email on it. Vincents DVD collection is beyond believeable, so hopefully in the future he'll put out just the stuff from his vaults.........let alone all the stuff he shot over the last few years.

Sorry I couldnt be of anymore help. Muay Boran is a general base of techs from the old style, you would want more specific training in systems like chaiya, lanna, khorat to get close to the actual ways of using it. Just my 2 cents but in light of the very few if any masters then the two DVDs by Colonel Amnat would serve you well because its really the basics laid out one on the theories and the other on the progress of simple techniques. I think the europe one is just col amnat doing the techs one after another which might complement one and two. Well worth getting theres over 3 1/2 hours on both dvds, so you will be able to get stuff to practice without a doubt from there.

If I hear of any more info I will post more. daniel, email me and I'll put you in touch with Vincent since you should be on his email newsletter list. He can probably give you a deal on the DVDs which he does for his members and it will save you alot of money. Hes kinda of cool that way.
