Thai sword competition in June.

Ther will be a major Thai sword competition this June, with cup from the Royal Palace, in the open class. I hope to fill you in with more details as they become available, and if foreigners are welcome to compete. The application is not yet available, and preliminary elemination contest may be held if the number of participants is large. There will be plenty of time to prepare and make arrangements, if any one of you are interested in attending or competing.

An up date.
There will be three divisions. 15 years old and under, 18 years old and under, and open. The winner of the open class will receive trophy from HM the King. The organizer hope to have the other two trophies given by HRH the Princess, and the Prime Minister. Foreigners are welcome to compete, but he should belong to and represent a club. This will help him study and understand the rules and regulation. Mr Vario from Italy is expected to compete, with improved form. Another European will be arriving in Febuary to train for this competition. If you're interested, I can introduce you to an official member of the organizing commitee, and he can arrange training and preparation. This guy is very good and wanted to compete himself, but the organizer wanted him to help organize the competition.

As far as I know, combatives are left aside in these competitions.
It's a forms tournament and/or prearranged fighting. They don't even spar, it's just a show. Pretty much like WuShu, even if WuShu is more entertaining and acrobatic.

The sword used in competition would be hard plastic tubing with foam covered. Regret I don't know too much since this is not my specialty. Pls see link below for photo of a demonstration.

No! No! No! this is not form competition, but free form sword fight. The blows are hard and severe.
This is a prestige tournament with cup from HM the King and HRH the Princess, as well as from the prime minister.

I didn't know it was like that. I read on an italian magazine (Kung Fu) it was a forms tournament, without real fighting. Do you know what are the rules? I think that if 15 year old can take part in the competition there must be rules. . .

I'll keep updating as information become available. The rules are not out yet, and I must admit that I'm into muaythai only, so information may be sketchy.
