![]() | Hiya there I suggest that you need to rest and let them heal however this may not approriate if you have a match coming up. So you will either just have to cope with them or take the match off. I would also recommend that you put ice on any "Fresh" bruise to try and reduce the swelling of them Suhieb |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | RICE Rest Ice Compression Elevation maybe toss on some sort of balm or training linament; they have thai boxing oils, bengay, salonpas pads, icey-hot, wood-lick oil from the asian market, etc. Gently massage the oil in. If your shins are getting that banged up...you need more conditioning. That means, smack the pads alot more, run and jog more, do more leg exercises- w/ or w/out weight...like up downs, jump rope, etc...but mostly, hit those pads hundreds of times a day. Look up wolff's law on wikipedia. There are 101 ways people say you can condition the shins- half of them are bullshit or will leave you with irreperable damage, nasty scars, or will just bang the hell out of your shins. among the one's I've heard are 1- kicking trees (thai's do kick bananna trees...but they are soft tropical trees much different then say...the evergreen or the plum tree I have in my backyard) 2- rolling a hard cylindrical object up and down the shins (yeah...this may also lead to a loss in bone density and flattening out the shin...but it'll kill the shit out of the nerves if you do it the way people tell you to.) 3- (this one is particularily unkind...it involves taking a hot washcloth and a coin or smooth flat stone and running it up and down your shins 50 times each leg...which will strip the skin right off...and you won't even feel it until after you get out of the shower and the cold air hits.)apparently if you do this enough, it'll kill the nerves. 4- kicking the pads and lifting weights to increase bone density and naturally and through successive and gradual approximations develop and condition the shins into a weapon that you could probably kick a tree with and be ok. 4 is the only GOOD option...but if you like scars, #3 is cool too. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | A hit stick is useful for building up the shins. But with a match coming up, there isn't a whole lot you can do, train technique and get some shin guards so that they can heal as much as possible before the match.

![]() | Are you getting enough vitamin C? Excessive bruising can be a sign of a lack of vitamin c. Don't forget to treat injuries ASAP with ice. Years ago, I used to buy a concoction called "Dai da chow" (Cantonese?) in Boston's Chinatown. It looked---and smelled---like a bottle of worcestershire sauce, but worked miracles on bruises. The downside of some of the Chinese medicine is that it can numb nerves and you can exacerbate an injury because you can't feel it. |
