Hey everybody, I have been doing Muay Thai for about 8 months, and have decided to do my class presentation for a business class. I have the material ready, but I wanted to get some feedback regarding some questions I might get. For example, say if one of the audience member asks me "What would one do if attacked from behind?". Or "Is there any specific muay thai techniques for basic defense in a street fight?"
I am probably going to emphasize thinking smart in such a case and use whatever is near to help defend my self or use my knees or elbows, etc. However any help regarding these questions would be appreciated. |

yeah dont take "what if" questions, they are the stupidest questions a martial artist can ask.
unless its specifically relevant to one move but even then. Any moves you have can be used at times when they are appropriate, beyond that there isnt anything. Its usually beginners that ask alot of what if questions and end choreographing a hole fight scene out. "what if someone grabbed you from behind and put this hand here" It can just go on forever. Id try and lead the whole thing so it doesnt go down that route. How are you going to make this relevant to a business class?

Thanks for the reply...ah basically this is a bussiness communication's class, so it deals with communicating in a bussiness environment, presentations, etc. Our prof. gave us an assignment where we could present anything to the class for 8 minutes, so I decided to choose Muay thai. I see where you are coming from, I jsut wanted to be a step or two ahead of the class just incase I get one of those. Thanks though....

Questions you might get:
off the top of me head. How old is thai boxing? does it have weapons? anyone famous use it? ever been used ina film? whos the best fighter in thai boxing? whos better thais or foreigners? how much can you win in a fight? whats the worst injury you have had? has anyone been killed in the ring? is it legal to use in self defense? the answer is no. have you ever done any other martial arts? why did you choose it/what do you like about it?

Not sure what country you're in Zamarai66, but in the US Muay Thai, and any other skill you have, is legal to use in self defense as long as you're reasonable.
For example: five armed guys jump out of the bushes and try to kill you for your money and you beat the tar out of them = OK; Someone insults you at a bar and you beat the tar out of them while they are trying to escape = not OK. Extreme examples, I know, but you get the idea. |

loll I live in Canada....I never said it was illegal, but yeh I know how it is down in the states. I did my presentation yesterday, and it went well, the only thing I regret is I didn't touch too much on Ram Muay and wai kru, but I got a little nervous, it slipped...I feel kind of bad, but it wasn't intentional. Thanks for the help everyone.
