Default Thai Kick Catch And Follow Ups

Hello Sirs and Mams,

I recently had the privilege of working with Khuen Khru Brian Popejoy. He was kind enough to let me video some of the moves we went over and include them in my television show "Taking It To The MMAT".

I thought I'd post his clip here for your enjoyment.

Good clip and good advice, the basic stuff always works well...one thing I woud say though is I wouldnt drop into the catch as he is clearly doing in the clip, the kick should rise up to the body and not the other way around (the higher you make your opponent kick the more off balance he is to a counter), what I mean by that is he is dropping his body to catch the kick..a good opponent will see this and at the last second switch from a body kick to a head kick because the opponent has dropped his body.

When we catch kicks we wait until the last second to hook the ankle and move with the flow of the kick to take out the sting, one other small detail is to raise up the left should and tuck your chin into it in case the opponent does switch the kick.

Yeah decent vid that.

I do that catch the same way Raven explained with a high body and a shoulder protection.

To get the guy up on his toes and moving back as you hit him(Tai na) is a good "point scorer" in Muay Thai,to get him off balance and to the floor is even better, forget the fact that the opponent may get tired of getting up he is also going behind so must get up and come forward to equal up the "score".

All round good of balancing techiniques in Muay THAI are a must to master.

This was shot and edited as an end credit reel for Taking It To The MMAT. I really enjoyed the clip and thought that my fellow TBA Brothers here might as well.

Next week we will release a great technique from senior TBA Instructor Khuen Khru Scott Anderson.
