Default Question from a newbie

Hi all,

I'm really fond of Muay thai and I plan to try it out myself. Note: I'm 5'4 at around 105 lbs. My goal is just to build myself, have some endurance and maybe have some courage to take a hit.

I'm currently working so I can only take lessons during weekends. Will this time be enough for me to grasp atleast the basics? Or should I just purchase some DVD and try to do a self study?

Thanks a lot

Go to class on the weekend. Consistency with training, even once a week, is the best way to get a good foundation. Take notes of the drills you did in class and shadow box them for a bit during the week. If you want to work out a some during the weekdays there is a bunch of stuff to do w/o a gym. Do some light conditioning, jump rope (It may be awkward- it is for me at least), and maybe to some body weight exercises ( www.bodyweightculture.com has some good stuff ). The take home message is go to class. Good luck!

taking a actual class and building a foudation is always best. But reading books or watching training vidieos helps also. Doing both is good , that way your always looking at ways to add to your base style. When your off your training days at the gym, putting together training programs at home is very helpfull.

Agreed. Go to a class. It's hard to notice what you're doing wrong without someone actually watching and telling you. Muay thai is a lot more technical than it looks and you really need proper instruction to get any good and avoid injury.

If you're pressed for time try and run during the week too.

Post Thought - It's hard to get used to "taking a hit" if you're teaching yourself from watching dvds. I had the funniest image of someone trying to spar themselves but always dodging punches because they know whats coming.

..... one class per week? ok that give u the basics but u need to do training at home too, maybe get a boxing bag lol im lucky i've got my bro to practice with at home we broke our last boxing bag so now we practice even more on eachother

oh yeah, one class might be enough.. depends on your teacher my teacher gets us to spar every lesson so we get used to taking a hit pretty fast, n another good thing if ur MT place doesnt do it BODY CONDITIONING nothin teaches u how to take a hit like that, just standing there with people kicking and punching, maybe the odd knee to the kidneys it teaches u lol

GO THE AUSSIES
