![]() | I lived in Phuket and never had trouble. Just got stopped once because I didn't have a motorcycle license but that was no big deal. Best is to avoid these tourist traps and there are many, they aren't going to show all the people having a good time on that program. Phuket is very nice, they showed the Patong area which is like Pattaya I guess, so that's where these things can happen. But it's true, many, many foreigners think they can behave like gods and do what they would never do in their countries. I have seen lots of them and this gives a bad image, and is insulting the Thais too. |

My point was to avoid all the other mad tourists in Pattaya and Phuket,I actually like Pattaya myself and Phuket was ok to,its the drunks that dont understand Thai culture and cant handle drinking that get on my nerves,I hate it when they disrespect the Thai people/culture and feel embaressed when its a English person doing it so I try to avoid places with to many idiots!.

Yes I agree, many drunks behave bad and in turn some Thais may behave bad with other foreigners because they assume all of us are like that.

![]() ![]() | I just stay out of pattaya and places like that period. I had a bail a friend out after a drunken night out, since i dont drink i wasnt out with him, he got into a big thing with some thai police. Everytime he opened his stupid mouth, they kept increasing the money they wanted to let him go. Finally, in his infinite wisdom, he calls me and I got to fly down there with my thai girlfriend at the time. She was pure magic, very educated, polite and knew her away around these people as her father was a prominent military man. Well, she saved the situation but it cost a pretty amount of money primarily because the thai police said the guy wouldnt shut his mouth which was beyond insulting and they were really pissed off. But she managed to save him from going to jail which as you can see is not a pretty sight. After that, I was like the hell with all that nonsense. I saw that side after hanging out in all the various places, and i have no interest in returning to even hang there. I have had not a problem here at any time and probably wont. And i have as much fun as any tourist or anybody coming here. |

![]() | That was lucky indeed, it's good your girlfriend could calm down the situation. I agree, those places are like traps. There was an American teacher who worked in the same place I used to work and he went to one of these places shown in the documentary and woke up the next day in a room without wallet and mobile. He didn't show up for his lessons nor did his phone ring, he didn't even remember where he had been which was scary, it took a while before he could think straight. I understand why some Thais say it's better not to hang out in some places at night unless you are with many people or that it's better not to ride your motorcycle alone at night, especially girls. |
