Default Shogun sparring

muay thai sparring session between Shogun and Dos Santos, that's a good one:

I agree, and he is going to need all of that against Machida!

And then some! I just do not see him being a formidable opponent for Machida, but maybe I will be surprised. I hope so.

Hi firecobra.
Yes he sometimes turns his back when a kick doesn't land during fights as well, that's a habit developed in training I think as I have seen many doing that in gyms. I remember he did it against Arona. Well that's not pure muay thai, that's maybe why he was losing the standup against Diabate who is a thai boxer. but that was just a sparring session, in fights it's all more focused and serious and that behaviour is usually absent, or both these guys and others wouldn't still be around!
I think the timing was there though.

Shogun has been on and off in MMA, i have a feeling mashcida is going to win this upcoming bout.

when you isolate out his stand up, it does have alot of weaknesses.

He is not one of my favorite MMA fighters personally.

Tee S and Jab,

this is a promo sparring, I guess. This is not even for training, this is just a small show.
I am not sure why you think this is a good one. Good to show what?

I totally agree with cobra.
How do you call this, is this still MT for you?

George,

is this how you think my kind does sparring?

What I have seen and experienced in boxing was that there are different levels of toughness in sparring, either you call it before with your sparring partner or it can also start mildly and get tougher, that's why I think it's always good to have your coach present.
Good for timing, good for the game, good because it's good to see shogun and do santos testing each other, good because I think it's a good watch.

I understand what firecobra meant it's not an exhibition of correctitude, but sparring is sometimes a game too like testing each other out or trying unorthodox things like a spinning backfist.

If people make mistakes over and over in sparring then they will make them in Fighting just the same(or worse) so all mistakes should be corrected in sparring by your coach, your training partner(if he is at a level to do so), or and byyourself,
this is the value of playing in sparring so you learn and correct mistakes until you make less and less, high level fighters will find even the smallest of mistakes, obviously you can get away with more mistakes against lesser skilled fighters but why would you want to?.

We should be building something that will sail in the strongest winds without getting blown apart, making basic mistakes like turning the back after a kick (without throwing a technique) falling down when your leg is caught etc are things I wouldnt exepect UFC contenders etc to make.

I am glad you and all others recognize this kind of sparring. This is the kind of sparring shown in the clips of Pahuyuth . This is exactly what it is about.
And i already began to think may nobody knows it, but it is well known as I can see. I am glad to see this.

What a great base to start from

Pahuyuth has nothing to do with the kind of sparring shown here. Are you saying you are even at the level of a shogun because that is insane? I dont care for shogun but theres a huge difference with the level of fighting moving and someone pretending to fight out of no experience whatsoever. Pahuyuth never produced a fighter of any caliber. real fighters and their progressions and sparring have little to do with people who dont fight nor produce fighters nor produce top notch instructors and work in illusion. Pahuyuth is for magicians looking to win by illusion.

If you are reading carefully, people are just critiquing his actions, nobody is saying they are in the same league as him unless they are fighting at that level.
