Default street fight

i do not condone street fighting, nor do i plan on being in any street fights, this is out of pure curiosity

About how long would you need to train in muay thai before it could effectively be used for self defense in a fist fight.
im not talking twenty guys with guns surrounding you, more like some punk who is trying to look cool decides to pick a fight.

How much training would you need before you can effectively use it, and what would be the best use of muay thai in a "fist fight"
clinch, elbow, knee, fist?

Umm, your thought process is a little odd.

I dont know how much help you are going to get but street fighting is very different from the ring which is a sport and although they are tough sports, its not the street.

In the street, everything is quick, you want to get away and be safe. Being safe and not being a hero is the objective.

street fighting should be avoided and avoidance should be practiced. Trust me from someone who has been in more than his fair share.

If you want to train self defense, then do that and focus on that aspect so you know how to handle yourself.

You don't need to train anything to "win" a bar fight. All you need to do is appologise and buy the guy a beer. If they are acting violent, call the bouncer over. If they are truly putting you in a situation where they are an immenent and clear threat to you or someone you are with, know that anything you do may end YOU up in jail and cause you a shit ton of grief down the road.

That being said...a few months of dilligent and hardcore training and you can master many muay thai techniques.

What I have found to be most effective are the elbow (range can be an issue) a real solid thai kick to the leg, and a decent left hook and learning how to cover if they start throwing wildly, and how to sprawl and manipulate the clinch to knee if they try to tackle.

Headbutts are nice, but they aren't part of the usual curriculum.

Still...at a certain point, you have become an aggressor in they eyes of the law, and if it's something like a bar fight, chances are you met it half way or instigated trouble somehow. With that in mind...sucker punching somebody is a clear case for assault and battery...aggrivated if it's with a bottle. But effective. Things to weigh out in your mind.

It's always cheaper to buy the guy a drink than to pay for your own hospital bills (infections happen), legal costs, possible time in jail or PRISON depending on the circumstances (which is time away from work, family, and fun...and is demeaning and demoralizing...essentially lost time spend with douchebags like the ones that tend to pick bar fights), and having to deal with the sizzle.

Why do you want to fight the street? The street is a lover not a fighter. LEAVE THE STREET ALONE!!! Please....The streets a human being!!!
